00 civic with ZC sohc ...?
My 00 Dx engine blew up, because of a money shortage and the need to have my car on the road quickly i could only find a sohc zc. My friend installed it but didnt tell me the additional parts i need to make this run right in my car. The sohc zc is in my car now running sluggish because of the ecu and exauhst system(so im told.) I found a PG7 from a 88 integra ls 5spd. Little did i know it wouldnt hook up to my car. Do i need a harness of some sort?(im a total newb)besides that what kind of headers should i get and exauhst, what do i need to do to make this shiet run right ...
Thanks

I highly doubt it's the exhaust that's making your car run bad, unless you have huge *** piping 3" and no turbo or like less then 1" lol
you can most likley cancel that out, unless maybe your exhaust mani is cracked..?

obd1? where would the engine say this..i was told it was off a 1991 model.G2 speed, the exhaust mani is fine, what my friend said after the install was that the holes on the engine that hook up to the headers are a bigger diameter than those of the Dx headers...everything is stock exept the zc sohc engine.
it is probobly and obd problem, im not positive about your options but i know you need a motor from 1996-2000 (OBD2) u could also do a ecu swap but i have no idea about that

That old motor def will not pass smog, most states won't even allow it (same yr or newer motor required). Anyways, my guess is the timing is messed up, due to the differences in y7 & zc base timing. I know its 4 degree difference (12* y7, 16* zc), and I don't know if you can get enough adjustment from that dizzy.
OK, im gonna try to speak lamens terms for you, I was once in you shoes. OBS is basically how you seperate the different gens of ECU's. There is OBD0 (your ZC motor) , OBD1 , and OBD2b (your old motor and the wiring in your car). OK, the motor you have is like you said, is from a gen1 integra. All of the electronice on you stock motor are way more high tec and theres alot more of them and no place to bolt them up to your new motor because they didnt wenrt in use back then. NOw im not sure if you can convert an OBD2b (your car) car to OBD0 (your motor). But if you can than you need to do some searching and find a ECU from a 88 to 91 CRX and Civic or a first get Integra. Or you need to find out how to convert that ZC motor to odb1 and buy a conversion harness to convert an OBD2b to odb1 and find a a 92-95 Civic DX ECU (there are others but im not sure). IM not sure all of this info is 100% so Im hoping other people on here can fix my info or fill in the blanks. Its tough being a newb, if you have any questions PM me on here.
So basicaly im at a loss of 800$ the 300$ for the engine wich has 130K miles on it and the 500 for labor. Now you guys say take that **** out? and buy a different one?.....man Fuch hondas. can i even make this engine fast?
I am pretty sure that you can run this motor in your car. Its just a matter of what ECU your gonna have to run. Dont worry about your header and exhaust, it will work just fine on the ZC.
Im so glad I live in a state that doesnt have smog laws. Now are there any slates that border Cali that dont have smog laws, and if so can you just register your car there and not have to smog test it?
No offence, I just got told that you internet mechanics dont know ****.. Japan still makes Zc engines till 2001 and it will smog, with my stock Dx ecu and all it needs is to be scanned or something with a computer to change something in the ECu....then my engine light will go off and the **** will run right. its a 98 zc engine.

You need to tell the person you were talking to that they dont know ****.
Your motor swap is illegal in the state of California because:
1. The motor has to be the same year or newer than the chassis you put it in. I dont remember anything about Honda making ZC engines until '01 but if they did, cool. I thought they ported over to D-series like in the US, but your problem is that they didn't make ZC's in the US after '95 so your still screwed.
cliff notes: '00 car with a '98 motor = you being owned by the police/DMV
2. In Japan, their cars dont have some of the stuff that makes OBD2 different from OBD1. The port for the harness is the same as OBD2 but there are things that aren't wired up....like a knock sensor, that will make you throw codes
Jdm obd2 motor + US obd2 ecu = your cel light owning you
Now to give you an option....I don't know exactly how close they are, but you could possibly use a '00 EX ECU and add those extra OBD2 things that JDM cars dont have ( like us JDM b-series owners did ) and trick the guy helping you into thinking it's a D18y8......but all that will be thrown out the window when they see the stamp on the block.....which you could file off
Hope i was more help than what you got earlier.

Yes you were alot of help....still this guy tells me my car is in Limp or limb Mode..??? and that after he messes with it the engine light will go off and it will smog. If your right about having an engine of the same year or newer ...who checks this? the smog guy? cuz i know him so i might be cool. So you say the Ex ecu is the best? could i just chip mine? THanks man.
your zc motor will pass the sniffer as long as its stock in good condition...yes. But if they do the visual like they should you will fail (but there is a chance they wont notice).
as far as the limp/safe mode that sounds right cuz the ECU your using is not getting a reading from sensors that are on the obd2 motor cuz they are not connected/not even there on the OBD0 motor. As far as remaping the computer to work I don't know but good luck and I hope it all works out. your friend charged you 500.00 to do the install? Was he not a close friend?LOL
