Seeking advice on suspension...
Hi guys,
I'm a new ITR owner and have 2 questions.
My situation:
I drive mainly in the city, don't track or auto-x. I like how the stock suspension feels (for my driving purposes). I changed to 195/50/15 T1S tires, and want to lower my car a little bit cus my wheels look smaller now.
1) I got a deal for new Apexi WorldSport fully-adjustable coilovers for about $1000. What do you guys of this deal?
2) Some people say I don't need coilovers as I don't track or auto-x. They say sport springs is sufficient for my purposes (looks). What is your take on this?
Your advice is most appreciated, thanks!

thanks guys for your advice.
1) for itr owners who have sport springs with stock shocks, how do u find the ride/handling in the city?
2) for apexi worldsport coilover owners (or ex-owners), how did u like it? (ride/handling/harshness)
thanks!

Hey dude,
I was in the same boat as you with regards to suspension needs, and I agree with not going for coilovers for now ... no point. I had TEIN SS dampers on my hatch and I never used them for anything more than DD (other than lapping a few times in the summer).
I opted to just buy the Eibach Pro-kit and call it a day. On the stock R shocks, the ride quality is stock. Handling is very much stock as well, but the Pro Kit uses a progressive spring so it's mildly stiffer in cornering. For the $300, you'll get exactly what you need.
So I would reccomend the pro kit. Tasteful lowering, and a bit more stability in the corners. And not $1000.

I agree with him. I have the Pro-Kit springs on my ITR. It lowers it a little and the ride is just like stock. After, I wore out my shocks I replaced them with Bilstein ITR specific shocks. Mines a daily just like yours. The ride got a little rougher after changing shocks but I still like it. Maybe it was because my stock ones were really worn out.
I agree with everybody not to get coilovers unless you plan on really using them for Auto-X or track days.

I recently made a thread about this, more or less.
My tastes have changed, and I really cannot foresee my car with coil overs on it again unless I start tracking it. DD = OEM suspension.
The OEM suspension has dampening and ride characteristics scimilar to a few coil-over setups that I've experienced over the years. The bonus is ride height. As much as I like the look of my car slightly lowered, it isn't an option due to the condition of the roads that I drive on (maybe this is an issue in your area). The draw back to OEM suspension is body roll.
However, I think body roll could be taken care of with proper sway bars and bushing upgrades.
General Question: I thought the ITR springs were progressive?

wow, you guys are really helpful, thanks!
my friend is selling his kg/mm dr21 (gold). it's supposed to lower 1.4".
1) has anyone used these with their stock shocks?
2) does anyone know the spring rates? i did a search and could not find anything...

I had those before with my stock dampers. They were alright. I eventually sold them and opted to go back to stock.
I seem to recall them being 7kg in the nose and like 5kg in the back. They were good springs for what I paid for them and never felt floaty.
I'd shoot them with clearcoat before you install them if you drive in a region that actually has winters.

I'm pretty sure stock rates are
4.2 kg Front
2.8-4.2 kg progressive Rear

very cheap, drop is amazing all my friends with ITRs now use them after seeing them on my R and we all swear by them

I always liked these on mine also.
You need to invest in properly sized tires though.

Went H&R Progressive for street use and it was perfect. Now, H&R Race for autox/street and it is 8.5 out of 10 mainly because of roughess on street use. Both with OEM shocks. Hope this help if you are leaning toward H&R springs.
Even though the coilovers may be a deal, don't waste the money to daily drive them. You'll just end up blowing the shocks out and they will need to be revalved or replaced in a couple of years.
Now, I have *never* been a fan of 195/50/15 tires on the R. Not only does it look silly, but I question the load rating to some degree.
I would seriously recommend getting 205/50/15 or 195/55/15 tires. It's always advisable to stay near the OEM outside tire diameter...especially on a daily driven car.
Then if you want an upgraded suspension, you can run lowering springs on the stock shocks, but don't expect the oem shocks to have a long life. Or, you can buy a set of Koni adjustable shocks and use them on the oem springs and have a car that handles great.
Most lowering springs for the ITR are just normal integra springs that happen to work on the ITR. Some of them lower the car but don't have as much springrate as the oem springs do!
