my sunroof opens fine but usually never closes it will sometimes close probably after hours of pushing the switch. I have already cleaned the rails and took apart the switch and cleaned the metal connections and still it wont close.

Drop it and find out. Mine had the same problem you're describing.. I would be making it go forward and backwards endlessly to get it to close all the way. I eventually took out the headliner and dropped it... the problem ended up being a single bolt that had come out, which was the reason it would close but not tuck in. Bad design
I got pics if you wanna see the part that was the problem

I've said this before and I'll say it again. As the service manual diagnostic flow chart says: If the motor works in one direction but not in the other then the switch is absolutely positively 100% at fault for your problem.

how did you clean the contacts inside the switch?
you really need to scrape the black off (razor blade). i'd be very surprised if that didn't completely cure your problem.

If you do clean the switch make sure to coat the contacts with dielectric? grease to prevent any more issues with corrosion.
My best bet would be that the switch is fubar'd if the sunroof will close all the way, but only after hours of hitting the switch. Seeing as it opens flawlessly, right?

Only because of the motor assembly but you are way off topic.
You can clean it with emry cloth or sand paper the switch is a common problem with the sunroof other than RUST.

Man, nobody's got an answer for this kid.
Well, Im no electrician, but I know things like this use a positive signal for one function and neg. for the other.
So, it'd sound like one signal or another is weak, causing it to open fine but not shut......
So maybe rewire it?
Sorry man, gave it my best shot.

If it works in one direction and not the other it is the switch.
Clean it again!
On a side note how do you get the switch out without breaking it? Is there some sort of clip or just push it from behind?

there are little clip type things on the back, just reach under the dash and feel it up to see where they are, then depress n pop em out.
To the OP: Dont you know somebody with a EF? Just borrow another switch and try it out, there could be an internal problem with the switch beyond needing the terminals cleaned

It might not be the switch guys. Try and follow me here..
Looking at the sunroof assembly, it does 2 things. 1) it pops open, and 2) slides open. Same with closing.
Now, OP, when you go to close it, does it slide shut but not shut all the way? Like, is it still stuck open an inch or 2?? Then it's the same problem I had.
The day when I dropped my sunroof track to see what's what
See the off-gold color part at the bottom-right of the track and compare it to the same part at the top-right of the track and you will note that the top part is disconnected
The bottom part:

The top part:

And the screw that was the entire reason my sunroof wouldn't close:

So, OP, if your problem is similar to mine, you may want to look into this. GL KTHX BYE
