Default question about helicoil...

im thinking about helicoiling the top 2 holes in the block, where the tranny bolts go into the block. i was wondering if anyone has ever did this before. im pretty sure the hole is 12mm X 1.25 thread pitch. the only helicoil inserts i can find are 18mm deep, and i was wondering if they would be deep enough? (this is on a b18)

Ok I'll admit I've not helicoiled that before, so take this for what it's worth. I'd take the original bolt, measure the length, and subtract the width of the tranny piece so you know how deep you need. Then try to find a helicoil that fits, sounds like you have the width and thread pitch down, so just try to match the length. You might have to go to a specialty nut and bolt shop. Then tap it and try to put the helicoil in like you normally would. I'm assuming it's all stripped anyways and you're not just trying to put in a larger bolt, so you probably don't have much to lose.

its basically a sleeve with threads on each side, the outer threads cut into the new hole and the inner threads is where the new bolt will thread in, its really simple, so you should have no problem with it. good luck.

anywhere online that sells tools should have it, a google search should do the trick but i think a local store would be a much better option, you just gotta look
