Default very Low compression

Hi ,there! Please help!
I just had mu timing belt and water pump changed on my honda civic 1994 DX and the compression dropped a lot.Tha mechanic told me it should build up pressure as I drive it.The acceleration is really slow.I almost got into an accident after I tried to turn on an intersection and stepped really hard on the gas but it took 5-6 sec. to accelerate slowly. Is this normal or there is something wrong.i told the mechanic if it doesn't get better I will bring it back there. It sucks.i just spent over $1500 for a distributor, timing belt and water pump change. It ran perfectly until it just couldn't start one day.
If you have any suggestions or advises i will greatly appreciate any advice.
Thank you!

I'll put money on that the timing belt is off a tooth.

Bring back to that guy and have him take a look at it.

Better still, take it to someone else! If a mechanic doesn't know how to properly replace a timing belt, then I would take it to someone else that does! Definetly sounds like it's off a tooth though, yeah.

I've never worked on a honda engine (except the B18C i just tore apart), but if they changed the distributor and timing belt, it sounds like the timing is really retarded. I'll second the timing belt being off a tooth.

Dont take it back to the mechanic. Nothing inside the engine would cause it to "build compression" as you drive it. Thats a cop out answer and is the mark of a horrible mechanic.
