Default HELP want to rebuild my D15B6 for more mpg

I just got my 1990 HF and its knocking so I figured I'd buy another d15b6, because they're cheap, and rebuild it. What I want to know is what I can do to get more mpg? Is there anything I can do in the rebuild process or maybe something along the lines of bolt ons and if so which ones have proven to give more mpg. Thanks

Rebuilding it expensive, just replacing with almost free engines is easier!

More compression would probably give you slightly more fuel economy. But you might have to start using higher-octane fuel...

Taller gearing would give you better fuel economy, but your gearing is about as high as you can get.

You might be able to get a little bit with a header; it depends on how inefficient the stock exhaust is.

Probably the best bolt-on improvement, though: Stick a brick under the accelerator pedal. (Bolt it down so it doesn't move around.) So you can only push it down halfway at best. That will almost certainly improve your fuel economy.
