Sometimes when accelerating from a dead stop, my car makes a funny noise. It sounds kind of like a low-pitched tire howling, but obviously that's not it. It just goes "rrrrr" and then stops once I get going. It also does it sometimes when the wheel is cranked, just not as loud. Could it be the power steering?

 

Could be.. Mine makes all kinds of noises and I only have 12000 miles on it.. oh well I just turn up the radio and wait for it brake. Then I know exactly were the problem is

 

ABS unit cycling.

 

ABS - that's like a very low whirring sound, which I dont worry about.

This is something different.

 

How many miles? Wheel bearing? Does it get louder when you turn in 1 direction, like changing lanes. D's car was doing the same thing and we thought it was his tires, turned out to be his wheel bearing and CV joint I believe.

 

I will go and see if it happens to one side more than the other. It also occurs in a straight line though...hmmm

 

Yea his made the noise really light when going straight, then when he changed lanes or swerved back and forth, it got louder.
