Everytime I start my car the RPM jump to 2K which is normal in every car, but it makes a rattling noise until the RPM gets back down to 1.5KRPM which is onle about 1 or 2 secs. of rattle. Could it be a loose heat shield? Or is it something major that I should be worried about?

 

are you revving to 2k then letting the rpms drop down and around 1.5k the rattle can be heard? is the sound heard when you're drving and when you slow down the rattle can be heard?? what gen lude?if its a 5th gen sounds like the auto tensioner is going out. common problem on the 5th gens

 

It only rattles when the engine is cold at start ups.

 

does the rattle happen ALL the time on cold start ups? Happens to me everyonce in a while on cold start ups. does it go away/ become quieter when the car is warmed up?? if so same thing is happening to my lude. I always thought it was the auto tensioner. hmm maybe it is my head sheild. i have kinda something similar going on in my lude. Its an on and off thing. Been going on and off for about 3-4 months now.

 

could possibly just be your exhaust is loose or maybe your heat sheild. Just get under your car and see what's up....I had a simlar thing happen to me with my first Prelude, and it was some loose metal in my Catlyic convertor, so I had to take it off and dump it out and hte sound never came back

Lol i never thought of that. I'm going to check it out soon. First need to find jacks and stuff first lol. What was done with the loose metal? just took it off if so how? Sorry about the thread jack
