Need HELP.... Throwing code P0420
My friends '98 accord has a check engine light on and is throwing a P0420 code.
...something about catalyst performance below threshold.
Money is tight, so we're trying to diagnose and fix it ourselves, but it's kind of hard to fix it if you don't know what's broke
If anyone has dealt with this or know exactly what part is malfunctioning, I would appreciate your held.

Thanks
, this does make it a lot clearer
Now I know it's wrong, but bear with me.
If the voltage does not fluctuate but just says high (we haven't measured it yet), would he just put a resistor in as a temporary solution to pass emissions?

Lol, looks like you have some electrical knowledge.
I hope I'm understanding what you are trying to do, hmmm.... If you are talking about the O2 sensor, and say it was "high", I don't know whether putting a resistor to lower the voltage output of the sensor would fool the ECU to think everything is normal, so to pass emission. I tend to think it won't work, but that just a guess?
This link might interest you with some info. on O2 sensors:
