Default Put down deposit on a fit

Put down a deposit yesterday on a storm silver fit sport 5MT. Got if for MSRP + TTL + $189 for tint. Got the dealer to take off the $599 "environmental protection plan" and the $299 pin stripe. The car is being built around 7/15 and should be delivered late august. Can't wait!

BTW, David McDavid in Frisco, TX has a Honda owned 5AT Sport for people to test drive.

So what do you think you'll actually pay for your car? How much exactly is MSRP+TTL+189??? You will be unpleasantly surprised unless you get the dealer to agree on an out the door selling price. TTL can mean a lot of things. How much is your license fee? 500? 100? 700? You're allowing the dealer to make up numbers. You're also leaving yourself open to them adding something more to the car like wheel locks, mats, etc... once the car comes in. They'll argue that's just standard procedure that they have to charge you and extra 500 for that. They'll also add on document prep fees, and more bullshit. All because you did not pin them down to a final price. Noobs.

Just because I have that "noob" avatar doesn't mean I'm a dumbass. For your information, TTL was 1,153.42 and they added a $55 deputy fee. Tax is 6.25%, so title and license fees were about $170. I wouldn't put down a deposit without an explicit total price. I was very explicit that I didn't want their $300 pin stripe, nor did I want their $600 armor-all coating. Your advice is good, but you assume, probably due to my "noob" status that I was uninformed. Don't assume.

Not my place but I just wanted to say that there are many an intelligent long time contributors to this site whom rock the "NOOB" sign very well indeed.

Sorry...

Carry on.

It has nothing to do wt your "noob" sign dude. You were just assuming that I was a dumbass. I'm just sayin... If you don't get confirmation from the dealer on an out-the-door price you set yourself up for disaster. And you still didn't come up with an out-the-door price. Do you add sales tax to the license fee and deputy fee or whatever else? Or do you just add tax to the msrp? You see... you haven't specified - and it's a difference of $50 to $100 just on what you tax or don't tax. You still don't know what you're going to pay. And I'm telling you that you will pay more than you should if you don't specify that final price. You'll be surprised how that "about $170" fee can float to $250+ because of various fees they didn't tell you about.

When I bought the fit sport in california I called up dealers and told em 18k, take it or leave. One dealer took it, 5 declined.

I guess I wasn't clear enough. I had already done exactly what you said and got an OTD price of $17,125, signed by sales manager.

Actually, you were very clear. You clearly left out that fact in your OP that you had an OTD price. So I wasted my time writing all that.
