How powerful can a d16y8 be? Is it worth going all motor or should i just get an engine swap? It comes with 127 hp stock.

That 127 is at the crank...way less at the wheels. Some swear by d series engines...I believe however that a good b swap....or a k or h is a much better platform. I am running a b16a right now...like it, but I need more torque...which is why in a few months ill be going h2b(h22a w/ b16a tranny/axles)

without serious changes you may be able to get 135-140 whp.
with boost and building your wallet is the limit.

1.) no, it's not worth going all-motor.

2.) you can put out 450hp at the wheels if you sleeve it and throw some forged goodness in the reciprocating assembly. Go to the forced induction section of the forum and do some reading. The Y8 is a great engine and the only glaring weakness is the oil pump which you can steal from a D16Z6.

Then again, powerful is relative. My 270k mile D16Z6 is plenty powerful for me, but I drive it to 100% of its capacity. My brother's B18C1 EH2 is pretty sweet, but it's kind of extraneous. It all depends on what you want to do.

The power it produces is unnecessary for the chassis it's in.

I didn't say it was a bad thing, but there isn't an EH/EG in production that needed a 170hp 1.8L motor in it to get down the road. I love the car, but I don't need that much power to have "enough". Maybe you just don't understand the point I'm making.

Either way, what the expletive do you care what I enjoy or don't enjoy about the output of my engines?

"Not constituting a vital element or part."

it still doesn't make sense, since when the hell is a B18C1 not a VITAL PART!!!

The word your looking for is overkill.

"destructive capacity geatly exceeding that required for a target , a large excess"

You've obviously never heard the word used coloquially in the context I've placed it in above. Strangely enough, that doesn't make you right or me wrong. Any educated person who's taken an English class in college would understand the function and contextual meaning of the word as used in the clause in my first post.

And it's "you're", Webster, not "your"

Stock WHP out of the y8 is around 100hp and about 70wtq...I have bought a used greddy kit and here is what my "kit" is:

rc 440 injectors
2.5" intercooler piping
greddy FMIC
3" downpipe
15g turbo (small but great power down low)
p28 with basemap later re-tuned on crome
obd2<->obd1 conversion harness
greddy manifold (will later upgrade to log manifold and t3/t4 turbo)

as of right now I'm putting down around 200whp and 200wtq on 8psi with 93 octane. I still get roughly 34mpg when I try and stay out of boost and drive normally, if I get on it my gas mileage obviously goes down to around 20-24 if I'm ALWAYS driving hard, but I don't . Good power, awesome reliability and it wasn't expensive. I'd say boost it, enjoy it and if it blows up either buy another y8 for CHEAP or get a b series for fairly cheap.

I've seen a stock (internally) z6 on boost push out 300+whp...they're impressive motors.
