AC Compressor Cultch Engagement Problem
I have a 1992 Accord LX with 250,000ish miles. I have an issue with the AC and a few questions.
The AC works great when the clutch will stay engaged. When it gets really hot, the clutch turns off/on frequently - about 5 seconds on and 5 seconds off. When it is cool, engine is cool, or the day is cool, then it stays on.
I checked the pressure of the system and it is OK. It is around 30 at 1500 RPM and about 34-35 at idle.
The pressure switch is about a year old. The original one leaked last summer and I replaced it and converted the system to R134a.
Is there a heat switch on this car? On my older american cars, they have a switch that goes out when it gets hot under the hood. Does this car have anything like this? Is the compressor clutch just going out?
Any idea of what to try?
