Default Square freaking one! (Again!) GOtta fix this ASAP!

I think the car is toying with me now. After I replaced the ignition coil the car decided to start, but I dont think it had anything to do with it because it's still doing the same damn thing. Now I was thinking of a better way to explain the problem and I think I thought of it. While I drive at random, sometimes alot sometimes not at all the car will kinda Hiccup so to speak, or like its sneezing. I know that sounds stupid as hell, but think when you have hiccups, thats what the car is doing. I had it stall out on me again today, and it got me thinking, the only time it has stalled out is at low RPMs. To get home today I used the e-brake to stop at lights and held the gas and clutch in, lol. It worked. In all seriousness though I need to get this bitch fixed no later than friday night and get back to Kansas, any "more" help would be apprieciated. I'm going to be up all night reading about this stupid thing.

I was told this by a friend, thing is "most" of the time it's fine, and if this was the problem it would do it all the time. I was also told it could be the TPS sensor. It seems like this problem can be caused by a million different things.

A lot of times, it is the most simple thing that causes bad idle, especially at low RPM.

It is important to understand that at idle, the throttle plate is closed, and only small passages milled into the throttle body control the air getting into the engine. (This is considered the idle circuit) Because of this, and the description of your symptoms, I would tend to believe that your throttle body is plugged up with carbon or even "oilized" carbon from a bad PCV valve.

Before you pull your hair out, take off your intake and inspect the throttle body. If you see large deposits of black gunk, you may want to invest in a good cleaning of the assembly. You can try to use the spray cleaner which works well for a lot of applications, or you could remove the throttle body and soak it in B12 Chemtool for the ultimate cleaning job.

A lot of times, it is that simple. You get surging idle from bad air/fuel mixture, and most of the time it's the air part that is the problem. Seldom will it be a fuel problem, unless you are also seeing starvation at higher RPM (When the throttle plate is open and the vacuum created by below manifold pressure is greater than the pressure at the idle circuit.) That's why you will be able to keep the car at idle while you feather the pedal.

Try it and let me know. After years of working with carbs, I have run into various idle problems with similar characteristics. But with carbs, you really have two problems to diagnose, fuel and air. Fuel injection takes care of half of the problem, which leaves only the air part (Which is the easiest to fix IMHO)

What about when I randomly drive and it hiccups. I could be at 3-4 grand and it will hiccup. I know it has only shut off at low RPMS but still runs like crap at higher. Although I dont think it has done it when VTEC was open which is 4300 on my car.

Ok, so I took the Main Relay out, I re-soddered it, the points for the fuel pump were jacked. Seems fine now. As far as I know I thought the main relay wont cause your car to shut off, but if the fuel pump wasnt making contact wouldnt that shut your car off?
