k20a2 making clicking noises on the top of the engine.

I drove my friends car to go pick up another friend while he's playing soccer. THis is his new k20a2 engine with 40 000km that he got under warranty. He old engine blew, lets not get into details with that. Neways. as i was driving it, i heard this ticking noises coming from the passenger wheel, it was really unheardable. SO i say screw it, it's probably nothing, then it got worses. THe ticking gets louder and louder and now it's permanent. I opened the hood and investigate to see where it's coming from, i rev it up and the ticking seem to be coming from the top end of the engine. I hoping that he needs a valve adjustment, but the ticking is really loud. You can really hear it while he's backing out, going out of the parking lot, while driving. There didn't seem to be any power loss at all, i didn't dare to take it pass 6000rpm just to be on the safe side.

neways, with this new engine, it didn't seem right, not even when the vtec kick in. I remember his old engine sounded likea type R kinda and this new one seems kinda weak and did not sound anything near like a type R. I checked the engine code and it clearly says k20a2. I feel bad and responsible because i drove his car. He just got the car 2 months ago and his engine blew because some dumbass didn't know how to drive and now this is happening on his new engine.
I hope that he just needs a valve adjustment. Any help would be appreciated..
