Default cruise control, aftermarket

I bought a 2004 Civic VP in January. I'd decided that I'd like to get cruise control installed. The Honda dealership tells me that they no longer do aftermarket cruise control, not even to just sell me parts. They say there are too many things that go wrong with installing cruise control after the fact.

Is this true? If I go elsewhere to get cruise control will I be letting myself in for trouble? Is there anything I can do or a brand I can look for that will make it more reliable?

Thanks,
Kristen

Well, I do not know of an aftermarket company that makes cruise control setups, specifically because it's very difficult to make a universal cruise control. See if you can't locate a junkyard and yank one off of an LX or EX. You might want to look at a wiring diagram and confirm this, but you'll probably want to get the steering column wiring harness off of the EX/LX, and probably the steering wheel itself. The controls for the cruise are on the steering wheel.
