Default FiT vs Rabbit

http://www.vw.com/companyinfo/news_20060410.html

2 or 4 door...2.5L...150hp...Good for Honda that I didn't see this earlier...on first glance it might have been a tough choice.

The Fit is a Fit and the Rabbit is a Rabbit! You can compare and contrast all you want - you'll find similarities and you'll find differences. People buy the Fit because they like what the Fit has to offer. The Rabbit will offer something almost completely different and there will be people who like that.

Honda build quality vs. VW build quality. No contest for me.

The Rabbit looks excellent in every way, but I've heard enough maintenance gripes from VW-owning friends to keep me buying Hondas for awhile.

The rabbit doesn't have the 2.0t, it has the 2.5L 5cyl.

the new Mk V golf/rabbit is built in germany, not like the old Mk IV golf/jetta and new Mk V jetta, which were/are built in mexico. the Mk V golf/rabbit has been out for 2 years in europe, so all the early-production bugs have likely been worked out. i've avoided VWs b/c of the reliability issues, but i wouldn't hesitate to hop into a new rabbit...esp for the 2 dr's sub-$15k price.

i'll likely be cross-shopping both of them. both have their strong points; the Fit seems to be more fun and better able to handle my 2 large dogs, while the Rabbit seems to be more car for the money, and vastly more comfortable on the highway. however, i can autoX the fit; the rabbit, not so much.

acutallly VW build quality exceeds honda by a landslide.. you will find more running VWs wiht older age then you will find honda. the VW Bug is a great example of its engineering. but then again i love my honda soo thats why i have it

Maybe you see more older VWs on the roed because back in the day more VWs were sold?

Every reliability/quality survey I have ever seen shows that Honda builds cars that have less problems than a VW. VW is almost always near the bottom (as in they have the most problems). This is for initial quality and long term.

my opinion is that the Rabbit has some good to offer. I think the styling is better than the Fit and that the interior materials and fit and finish are better. The power is obvisouly much better (150/170) but the reliabilty will probably be

In the I end I would choose the Fit. This is because of Honda engineering, reliability, and of course my personal bias

I think they are both ugly, and my 87 Chrysler could beat both in the 1/4 mile. but if I had to choose one I would choose the rabbit, I hope it lives up to the rep.

we're not looking for racing, they're strictly economy cars.

my friend works at a vw dealership, and is always telling people not to buy vw....however, the new jetta/golf/rabbit are supposedly alot better by far. That said, I'd still probably get the fit
