Default Are those high flow direct bolt on cats on ebay legit??

Well my cat is going out and i need to replace it. I was on ebay and noticed that i could get one of those high flow cats for like 30 bucks shipped....are these legit? Will they work in reducing emissions in case i want to sell my car later down the line?? I know you get what you pay for....but you never know.

post an exact link to what your talking about,

but if I think I know what you are talking about, its those "replacement cats." which are the same as a resonated test pipe. There are no catalyst elements, and it just a straight flow through.

very illegal to use on public roads in america. Especially in california where it is strictly enforced.

oh, how do you know your current cat. converter is going out? did you fail a smog recently?

i think that the problem with those ebay cats is that you're never really sure if the catalytic element is active, or even there for that matter. you can probably get a carsound for a little more money anyways. since the catalytic converters contain platinum, it wouldn't surprise me if these ebay cats didn't have any.

I bought one for like $35 and it was nice craftsman ship but totally did not fit my integra hahaha. It was to short and o2 bung was on the wrong side of the cat. Plus it really did not have any catalyic matrix inside, so yeah you get what you pay for.

LOL. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Those are junk. You may even have problems passing smog with a quality high flow cat. An OEM replacement is really the only guarantee that you will pass both the visual and the sniffer.

same here. about 2" too short and the flanges didn't line up correctly. I'll probably just end up hacking a flange off and getting it rewelded because thats still cheaper than a $90 omni pipe.

exact same thing happened to me, it was 2" too short so I had to cut the flange off, bolt it to the cat and weld in a 2" long piece of pipe to fill the gap. Other than that and the strong *** fumes, I love the way it made my exhaust sound. It's loud but it doesnt have that irritating ricer bumble bee tune.

Very true. I failed smog because my cat was going bad. The shop guy said, "Why don't you get a hi flo cat". It was actually a carsound hi flo. I failed again with no improvement over my last numbers. So I borrowed an oem cat from a homie and i passed fine.

if youre worried about smog and your cat, throw a dodge neon srt-4 cat on and you will pass

the srt-4 cat is extremely restrictive and burns the emissions off better than an old stock oem cat

I'm assuming you're OBD0/1, the cats on there won't work with OBDII because they don't have a second O2 bung so you'll get a cel and definitely won't pass inspection.
