K series custom IM
Anybody interested in making me a custom IM for my 2.4L K series?
not much out there in terms of aftermarket mani's or even options on the OEM mani's... I'm lookin to make 250hp+ and I don't think my OEM mani is going to be able to keep up. I am currently looking in to getting my OEM mani extrude honed due to lack of options.
If I had more time and money I would get someone to design and make something specifically for my setup, but I don't.
Just wanted to see if there was anyone who has experience in sheet metal IM's with OEM like TB placement that might be interested in spending a little time making me something? I can get a cut OEM flange, which will retain the stock coolant port on the flange and will just need new runners and plenum fabbed and welded on...
Of course I will pay for all the supplies and give you some $$$ for your time and effort. but I am looking to have it done by the end of the month or so...
if anybody is interested just send me a PM or post something in here...
Thanks, Jon Verity

well fella's I am talking to soemone about fabbing me up a custom IM and could use some help with some of the more technical stuff...
I have no experience with fabbing or designing anything like this so I am not sure how to come up with some of the dimensions. I am trying to have something made that will support my intake volume and velocity needs while fitting in to a space that even the OEM RBC won't fit in.
The mani is being built for my IPS KME cammed K24a2. It will be utilizing a nice perf valve job with the IPS cams, my custom long tube header, an upgraded oiling system, and the stock 10.5:1 compression TSX block. At this point I am only looking at rev limit of 7600-8k and will be tuning with an AEM EMS.
Now I believe the biggest draw back on the OEM mani's is there lack of volume to feed the bigger 2.4L motors in the higher RPM range. With my unported head and stock block I am not looking to rev any higher than I need to, to make the 250hp+ and the 210lbs+ tq I am lookin for...
So with that in mind here are a few things that the fab guy has asked about
plenum volume, runner lenght, runner taper, runner angle, port entry and exit are factors in the design process along with the basic tb placement
Now I am also looking to keep an OEM like TB placement so that is one less thing to worry about. I am thinking that the best way to get some of these measurements woudl be to examine the OEM mani specs and what there draw backs may be. From there tweaking the OEM specs more towrads what I need, increasing plenum volume and adjusting runner length for my RPM range.
Runner angle I would think I wouldn't have to change and should keep that as close to OEM as possible. Port entry and exit are two thing that I am not really sure what he is looking for, possibly just the OEM specs (is he looking for sizes)?
So anyone that may have anything to add or any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone else who is interested in these kind of things, as I am, you may be able to learn some things from this thread. I hope to...

yeah but they are not sure when it will come out. it's been awhile already, but i'm pretty sure the wait is worth it since it is a nice piece.

Most of those high power motors which are still on an OEM IM & TB are using the RBC out of the newer SI. The Hybrid Racing mounts for the EK do not give sufficient room for the clearnace behind the radiator. That means not only am I limited to an OEM mani but one of less performance oriented mani's at the same time... (TXS or RSX)
we'll see what happens

interesting... well I will have an OEM mani to test when I get up and running, whatever I end up doing...

You should get in contact with a porter and see what they can do with your stock intake mani. I have seen some pretty impressive stuff with B-series motors with there opened up and ported intake mani. Maybe worth a shot and see what kinda gains they have gotten/ or can get.

I heard around $800 and they supposedly outperform ITB's. If thats true, it's a bargain at that price. I'd like to have one.
