upper caliper pivot slide sized...
I went to change my brakes today and the caliper didn't want to pivot up and out of the way. After alot of carb cleaner, spray lube, and pulling on it for a while I got it up, and after another while of forcing it up and down it started to pivot freely again, but now it still won't slide. Obviously the wrong part is turning freely.
I believe I can remove the entire caliper assembly without have to remove the rotor, thank gosh. But how am I going to get the sized pivot slide out of the caliper? I was thinking I'd need to take my torch to it to heat it up a bit.. bad idea or waht?
I think the problem of why it seized is simple... the protective boot for this joint was missing when I got the car, and I never put a new one on because I didn't have one. Well I thought if I lubed it well it would be fine. But now it's siezed.

heat usually helps the most. if that doesnt work just try working it back and forth while pushing outward on it at the same time while its hot. havent seen one that wouldnt come off like that yet. once its off clean it off w/ some emory cloth/sandpaper, and lube w/ brake lube (silicone based lubricant)
Well thanks for you reply schardbody.
I couldn't get the caliper mounting bolts loose either. My gosh...
I don't know what to do now. I put the heat to the pivot slide anyway for a good while .. tried it twice and still won't budge. All it does is rotate, won't slide anymore...
I'm tired of this already, I don't think there is much I can do for this unless I get some of that hardcore rust eating stuff and even that I can't be sure will work... My gosh I don't know what to do.
If I keep pounding on that pivot with my dull-tipped chisel I think the first thing to come apart will be the other wide of the slide pivot joint.. the one that's rotating but probabily shouldn't.
What to do now? I think I'll go tap on it some more, all it seems be doing is damaging the metal, if it doesn't come up I'm going to have to put the new pads on and close this side up so I can move on. This mess has already costed me to miss an appointment.

well, if it will pivot then eventually it will slide off.
try swinging it up and then hitting the caliper itself away from the bracket.
i cant think of much else that will help if heat didnt.

Let me ask you this...
Is there a bolt in the top pivot of a 92-95 DX brake caliper assembly?
Also note: I think the WRONG thing is rotating allowing the caliper to pivot.

the top slide is part of the caliper bracket, but it will unscrew. if its unscrewing instead of the caliper pivoting then you are in a bad boat. you may end up having to get another caliper and bracket.
Right..
what it's doing is the top slide is siezed to sleeve on the caliper, and instead of sliding around the slide, the entire slide is turning about the bolt. But can't SLIDE back and fourth because it's .. bolted :-p
I figured out from looking at the other wheel that the top slide is bolted to the bracket.

UPDATE FOR SEARCHERS:
I got the caliper pivot slide out successfully the other day. After removing the caliper w/ seized pivot, I soaked it with PB Blaster and then used a socket extention w/ hammer to beat it out. Luckily I didn't have to get out the torch!
Sanded both the slide and the inside of the pivoting arm really well, re-greased them up and called it god. I just need to find a replacement boot so this doesn't happen again because I don't have one on their yet.
