Fit Competitor: Nissan Versa
I saw a special on Motorweek and decided to check this car out online.
All I can say is that the Fit will have a dogfight on its hands, and that the Yaris might get pummelled.
The Versa comes in two variants - a 4-door hatch, and a 4-door sedan. It starts at $12,500 for the base version, and $14,450 for the 1.8SL.
I am sure that it won't offer the same style and refinement that the Fit does...but it does offer a 6-speed manual, sunroof, and a 1.8L motor with 122hp! Combined with the ability to get it in a sedan, the Versa should do well in the upcoming subcompact cage match between the world's three hottest manufacturers.

Well, who knows?
The car looks great on paper, but it could suck in real life. I'm guessing that the Honda will still be the better car once you're behind the wheel, but Nissan has a way of making their cars more marketable.
The Versa's 6-speed, sunroof, and higher-HP motor will be tough for a potential Fit or Yaris buyer to ignore, especially if they are not already a Honda fanatic.

Both the Fit and Versa should be equally quick. The Versa weights over 2700lbs and the Fit is a tad over 2500.
The exterior looks nothing like the concept, it just looks hideous. And according to several auto journalists the interior has the very typical cheap nissan look to it and very poorly layed out.
The Fit has so much more standard equipment. Once you start comparing apples to apples the Versa will come out more expensive.

Plus, the Versa only is rated for decent mileage with the CVT tranny, and the testers have found that even with the CVT, the mileage isn't as good as I'm seeing with my Fit (37.5 highway, 35 combined, 33 around town)... the 6-speed would be a nice thing to have, but the mileage is supposed to be considerably worse than the Fit.

Yes, because the Versa's cool options (sunroof) are tied to more expensive option packages.
But I priced out a Versa and a Fit on the manufacturers' websites, and I got a lot more stuff in the Versa for not very much more money.

I like that the Versa offers options that other subcompacts like the Honda Fit dont. This includes Bluetooth Hands Free, a sunroof, satellite radio, and steering wheel mounted redundant audio controls.
I dont like however, that the Versa has longer braking distances, slower acceleration, and non stellar fuel economy for a subcompact.

i've read a few things about the new Versa.
It's going to cost around 14,000 to get one decently equipped, more depending on the trim level.
It has a more powerful engine, but also weighs 3-400 lbs more than the Fit. It also suffers about a 5mpg city loss compared to the Fit.
It does have the 6 speed but testers have said it still doesnt feel as sporty as the Fit.

I think the Versa has some nice options. It will end up costing more, but who doesn't like gadgets?
FWIW, MotorTrend just did a comparison of the Yaris, Fit & Versa. #1 Fit, #2 Versa, #3 Yaris. All auto trannys though.

That bad eh? I haven't seen them in person. Just on the web.

Pulled into the Nissan Dealer over the weekend and parked next to one of these, they're gawdamn ugly as hell. They have some cool features, I especially like the 6spd trans but they just don't stack up vs the Fit imo. They might have more power but for this class at least for me it's all about mileage.
I work at a Honda/Nissan dealership, and we just got our first Versa's over the weekend, and I looked at a few with our mechanics, and they said the way the engine looks in the engine bay that it will be difficult to work on, and with some of the problems that Nissan has been having lately (dont get me wrong, I love the Maxima, Z's and Murano's are ok), the Versa might start backing up our service lane (instead of Altimas and Sentras) in a few thousand miles or so...

[QUOTE=XiOus271d they said the way the engine looks on top on the engine bay that it will be difficult to work on,[/QUOTE]
Given that its a DOHC engine vs. the Fit's SOHC, I can see how the engine bay would be more cramped.
