GoLowDrew's Performance Muffler
I want to build my own muffler. I have a design. I have an idea. And I have no clue on what's involve. I don't plan to get rich, don't plan to quit my day job. I just want to provide a good muffler that we all want. Performance, mild sound, and cheap. That's asking a lot, but I have an idea (which I'm not sharing now). Maybe my design will work, maybe it won't.
Like any of my questions, I'll start here first.
I need metal stamping, welding, and where to get pipes.
Where should I start?

LOL
Seriously though - depending on the number you plan on producing you might be better of making them by hand. Set-up a mini assembly line in you garage/basement or something.

Maybe. I can find someone to weld, I can pay someone to weld.
But I'm more interested in seeing if my design will turn out how I imagine it.

I'm in AZ. I got my "China" about 2 hrs away if it turns out to be more than an idea.

If you are serious come up with a prototype and then start searching for factories who make muffler. COntact them and go from there I guess. Anything fabricated by a welder certainly isn't going to fall into the cheap catagory.

That's what I hope to do first. Is to build a prototype design. Test it on my car. And then try to produce it if it's really what I think it would be.
This exercise has got me thinking. I will try to find an OEM muffler for the basic parts. Most shop throw them away.

If you want to start off w/a cheap protype to see if it works rivets & epoxy might be your friends...
It won't last, especially the epoxy, but it should last long enough to let you how how it sounds.
If it works well enough to consider making & selling you might want to find a partner who can weld or buy a welder & learn.
