Default HELP new to this tuner thing

Hi I have a 1991 integra Ls it only has 99k on it and is very strong. I just puchased another Ls motor i want to go brand new from the crank up. Thing is all my friends ,much older than the tuner people, are into old school V8 building and none of the kids in my area are giving up any info on how to build a better machine than theres my goal is to get 200hp or better from this A181a obd1 and have a motor that is ready for a turbo (for when the 200 just aint enough) im not looking at making this happen quickly my budget isnt bad but i want to spend it wisely wich is why i opted to find another motor so my car is still up and running till im ready also im not a big fan of 5 speed cars i love automatics i have the 4 speed auto in mine any and all help will be aprecciated i am not new to the hoarsepwer game my first car was a 1970 RAMAIR 4 GTO it only gets about 6 mile to the gallon so its not a practical machine anymore for driving everday i am hoping you guys on this forum are alot more helpful than the kids in my area

Check your info. You'll get reamed if you put up A181a. I am pretty sure that there is not an A18 Motor. If the car is stock setup then you have:
91 Integra A.K.A. 91 DA (Based on the VIN)
ECU: PR4 OBD0
Tranny is a YS1
You have a Non-Vtec motor. Your choices are:
LS/Turbo...Many go this route
LS/Vtec....A bit more of a BUILD
LS/All Motor.....Possible, Could be a great sleeper around track time.

oopps i saw my post does b18A1 sound right im at work got wifes car cant check my vin but i think thats it sorry dont want to sound stupid but the ls all motor is that meaning just putting perormance guts port polish deck and what not and a quick question about injectors for my project is a 250 to 289 cc injector to much or not enough im starting the top halfe of the motor intake manifold head and header are all bing ported polished and gasket matched im almost sure that i was told by the guys at absolute proformance told me i have an OBD1 setup again ill get my facts straight and post when im 100% sure

As far as the race track im more into bracket raceing vs quater mile heads up but if i got it im sure ill try My last runner was a 1970 gto ram air pulling about 11.75 now i just wipe it down with a shamy and drive it at a very slow pace gas costs way to much to drive it every day

To Get an all motor Ls then yae you have to at least port the head because you are starting off at a loss to any B-series motor that has Vtec. The injectors will help you out a bit but to run more fuel usefully you have to get the air in and out faster. If you are going all motor then you need to start focusing on your compression setup. I am not sure of the stock compression though. They you say you are running OBD-1. Something tells me that car hes already been worked on. Just for a long shot....... Does the Valve cover say VTEC? Also do you know where your ECU is there should be a number on it. It should say 37820-XXX-ZZZ The X's are your ECU # if it is OBD1 this will let you know. If your Valve cover says Vtec on it then you have yourself an LS/Vtec setup. Here is a pic of one.:
Just remember though. the Valve cover will be flat black.

Just a little info:

1991 Integra (DA)
ALL USDM 90-91 DAs came with an OBD0 B18A1 "non-VTEC" 130hp/121tq
90-91 DAs did NOT come with a YS1 trans that was ONLY offered 92-93. IIRC they had Y1 5sp trans.

Building a 200whp non-VTEC motor is next to impossible for a non-professional. I can't say I have ever seen a non-VTEC <1.8L with a dyno graph of 200+whp. If you really want 200whp, a properly built B18C, B18C1 or B18C5 are your best bets. A hybrid LS/VTEC is also possible, but require some skills to build & make it live on the street for more than a year. If you really want a turbo you can boost your stock motor <7-10psi with tuning if it is a healthy motor. While you are having fun with that you will want to have that spare B18A1 built with forged rods and pistons for more boost when the time comes. There is no real need to go ape **** on the head, just a basic stock refresh since your power will be coming from the snail.

Also you may want to spend some time over on http://www.g2ic.com in the Turbo forum. There is also a basic guide under the TegTips for turboing a G2.

Oh yea and for another Pontiac owner. 77' Firebird with a 69' RamAir III swap here.

love the ramair swap sweet but i have a complete low mile ls motor from a 91 integra that im building now i have machine shop pros as buddies of mine to do the critical work but i was hoping it was a posability to stroke the motor to 2.0 but let me do this one step at a time questions and all so on the head im sending it out to the shop tomorrow now from some of the other posts ive read i know my bro will give me a great port and polish taking all cast marks out and gasket matching the ported jdm intake manifold (only thing finished ) and the dc-sport header as well now for compresion i think im going to deck just a little off the head a little off the block and a thinner gasket how much is enough for real results

also this motor isnt going in untill its one 100% finished im in no hurry to do it wrong
