Cannot figure out this noise!
Ok, I've researched this night after night and even adjusted my valves to try to solve this noise I have on my B18C1 (94 GSR, stock internals and headworkd). I'll explain the situation, then go on with my question.
I would like to stress that this only happens when the engine is cold and has been setting for over 2-3 hours.
Anyways, when I go to start my car, I get this tapping noise from the valve-train, near the #4 cylinder (whichever is closest to the Dist.). The noise is can be heard from within the car and is very noticable under inital acceleration and the noise will die down but not go away completly as I drive. When I change gears, and the engine goes under inital load again, the noise gets loud, then dies down without going away completly. After driving for about 10-20 min the noise eventually goes away and the car sounds fine.
The best way I can describe it is as a ticking sound. Like I mentioned before I thought my valves were out of spec so I adjusted them and the noise still remains.
My question: Is this the symptoms of a Lost Motion Assembly going bad, or is already bad? I've been trying to diagnose this as specificaly as I can so that when I take it to the shop I can tell them exactly what to do. Thanks for the help guys. Sorry to make another LMA post, but like I said, I'm stumped.

I have the exact same problem. Sound like its coming from under the distributor. Can u make a video please cuz i dont have a video recorder. Its weird cuz its not a constant noise and ITS NOT an injector cuz i used the stethoscope thing to listen. I couldnt even find the noise using that thing after about an hour one day. I just gave up and decided to live with it since i have no idea where to start diagnosing.
I had the same problem, rite after a head gasket, roughly after 1000 miles. Adjusted valves still there, put a stethoscope on the dist. and it sounded ROUGH. That was what it was with mine
