Default How to get rid of squeaks and rattles!!!!!!!!

Ok, I have a 1991 Honda Civic with almost 208k on the body. Car runs fine it has a SOHC ZC motor and gets 28mpg with the ac on and 31 with it off. Don't know how you guys say you get 35mpg and all. Anyway, back to the point. This is my daily driver so I want it to be as quiet and economical as it can. I don't mind that my Buick rattles a little from the T-tops because I hardly drive it unless at the track or impressing the ladies. lol. The squeaking all seems to be coming from the rear of the car near the hatch. I mean, it used to squeak and rattle only over harsh bumps but now it just does it no matter what. The only time it's quiet is when it's idling. So what can I do? Should I stiffend up the rear with a thicker sway bar? I put a thick brace in the middle of my Grand National and that stopped a lot of the rattling so I was thinking maybe this would have the same effect. Either way, it's driving me crazy and even with the music blasting I want to sometimes get out and light this POS on fire.

I get 50 mpg, I don't know how you get 28. Anyway, back to the point, I think you have hatch rattle, you should just try and pinpoint the sound and see if you can find something like a holder that's loose and flopping around. I have it but I don't noticed until I turn the music off, which rarely happens, but when I do, it's like, what's all that rattling,

Good luck though.

50!! what the hell are you using and what motor to get 50! I had the same kind of civic hatch before with the stock D15B2 and the best I ever got was 33 mpg. I fill up with 87 though. I tried 89 once and it didn't do anything. I get about 280-320 miles to a tank of gas. Maybe it's the tranny? I think the tranny is the one that goes with the ZC from Japan and if I remember correctly when I was into 4 cylinders a few years back, those tranny's have a real low gearing. I'm afraid if I were to go any higher on the gearing the car would move. It's such a dog and with the air on I swear there has to be no more than 50 hp. Maybe I'm just too used to my GN.

87, d15b2, mpfi, hf tranny, in a crx.

It's prolly a lot to do with the tranny, since the zc is very short and the hf is very very long,

Does the mpfi make a difference too? Cuz I think the SOHC ZC is rated at like 120 or so right? Except it has all the extremely restricting D15B2 parts on it so it doesn't feel any faster than the D15. That's just a curious question cuz the car actually loses speed when going uphill unless I'm in 2nd gear reving the crap out of it all the way to 55, only to shift to 3rd and lose 10 mph and the mph jsut sit there until at the top.

This guide shows/describes dyno results from the mpfi swap: http://www.psytronix.org/xo/mo...eid=5

DPFI just really sucks, a lot.

Try putting electrical tape around the metal loop/latch thingy of the hatch. Solved the problem for me.

It was a first thing in mind. It solved most of the squeek noise. Do that first.

Go over alot of the little screws with a screw driver. Years of vibration loosen then a bit. After that, electrical tape to hold down rattling parts.

EDIT: And 25mpg? That blows! I get that on a blown O2 sensor. Watch your right foot.
