For people that painted their rims, did yall use clear coat out of a can? I don't have access to a paint gun. What kind of results will I get if I use it out of a can?

I cleared mine with a spray can and was extremely impressed. The thing with the clear for me was getting the right type of paint. I used a cheaper clear the first time and did not let it sit-up for very long and the first time I did a mtn run the brake dust embedded itself into the clear.

Did you re-do it? How long has it been holding up?

 

Clear in a can will hold up just as good.

Sweet thanks. i'm painting some rims that have been polished, do i just clean it, scuff it then primer, paint, clear?

Yes, use the adhesive promoter too.

Helps whatever coating bond a little better. Make sure you use all of the same brand primer/paint, etc. They are formulated to work together.

Would I spray that before the paint or before the clear coat? Is it really necessary?

Before, also if you want you can use it before the the paint. just for a little extra adhesion.

 

How many cans you think will it take to paint all 4?

2, but just buy 3 just incase you od on some rims or happen to mess up, so you got a spare and don't gotta go to the store to get more, and if you fail to use the 3rd, just simply return it

As for primer would I just need one? I don't think you need a heavy coat of primer.

 

1 can of primer is enough. i did mine couple days ago, turn out really good.

 

Thanks. How much is a can of the Dupli-Color paint, clear and primer?

 

What grit should I scuff it with?

Scuff with like 1000 or so....
that could be totally wrong for some technical reason but It worked for me.

Not to hijack, but does the clear+ adhesion promoter work well on polished wheels?? I got a set of wheels that are polished almost ot the point of looking like chrome, and I don't want to spray something on that isn't gonna stick.

 

damn, can you spray over clear? i think i didnt spray enough base on the 2nd rim.

 

i was solely against clear coat.. im flat color partial!
