Default 1998 Accord- Transmission ??

I have a 98 accord 4cyl, occasionally it feels like when at idle the tranny will slip. You can feel the car "pulse" as it will catch and then nothing. Let off the brake and there will be nothing, then a couple seconds will go by and it will catch again and roll. Am I SOL and tranny going out?

my wife's pontiac did that for a while, I changed her transmission oil filter and the oil and it has extended it's life for now. That does sound like somthing is wrong with your tranny though, I don't deal with auto trannys very much so I'm not positive what exactly is the problem. That generation auto tranny is known to break down though.

If worst comes to worst I've got a 2000 Accord engine and tranny in my storage, they both have about 50k miles. It's an F23A w/tranny out of a Special Edition.

check fluid if low add some. If fluid appears other than light pink, change it

I4 and V6 trans have high failure rates for a Honda (the V6 cars are almost to the point of "not if but when will the transmission die?")

The problems are

differential bearings

2nd gear clutch packs get nuked due to insufficient lubrication.

tranny fluid just changed ~ 2 months ago. It seems to only be nitceable in 90+ degree weather.

Mine would surge forward in a gear past the normal rev limiter, then it would switch to the next gear and shoot me forward. That's when I got a free tranny from Honda. As a precaution, just check your tranny fluid. THere's a color guide, and check to see how yours looks. Mine was supposed to be fresh but looked totally ruined, proof positive my tranny was shot...
