What grade transmission fluid goes in a GSR?
I'm ordering Redline fluid, but I need the grade information....my manual says 10W-30 motor oil...I don't like the sound of that. Tell me exactly what I need to order. Thanks!

Redline is a good way to kill a perfectly fine tranny. Stick with honda MTF.
I have known plenty of people who used redline mtf and the tranny went bad on them. Definitely not driver error there, they barely ever even raced. Sure some people have been lucky and had no problems, but most of the people that I know using it have gone through a tranny or two.
so you're saying everyone you know that uses redline mtl has had their transmission go bad? if it's the fluid, why don't they all go bad?
Not everyone I know, just most. Some people have no problems at all....some people also had no problems with their firestone tires too though...

agreed, ive been using redline in my hondas since 93. its the driver that kills trannies not the fluid. ALL of my friends have been using redline way before honda MTF came out and we have had no problems at all. redline is good.
If you havea 94-95, the manaul says use 10-30 or 10-40. I used 10w-30 and the results wasn't to my liking. I plan on changing to 10w-40 and see what happens...

yep. they are around 9 bucks or so. youll need 2 bottles, that should be enough. also, if you read the bottle, it will say that it is compliant to the 10-30w oil and also SAE certified and all that good stuff. honda mTL is good too for some people but i think this, why are you going to put stock oem oil that was designed to go in a stock car while youre car is not stock?
actually, you'll need a bit more than 2 bottles, so buy three. specs for the tranny is 2.2- 2.3 qts.
also, when you do any transmission fluid change, be sure to have the car level when filling it up (raise the back end). this way the correct amount of fluid will go into the trans. if you don't level the car, you'll end up with less than it calls for... not a good thing.

sarcasm? love it. anyhow, lemme ask you this, do you never ever redline your car? i guess if you dont then honda MTL is fine for you. but me, i take my car to redline and redline MTL gives me the smoother shifts between the two. i tried honda mtl and it didnt cut it for me. to each his own and i know this from experience not from hearsay.

i forgot to address you comment about the filter. if you like fram then go for it. i personally dont use it, i do use the honda filter though and my motor is fully built, there arent any better filters out in the market that can compare to the honda filter but if there are better, id use it.
hey, cmon you two... everybody has their opinion and by my way of thinking, you're both right... these are both fine fluids to be using, so no matter what you choose, you'll be okay. if you think otherwise, then by all means don't use redline. I think we were just stating our opinions and things might have got a little out if hand.

Now the question is why would the Redline MTF be bad to use in a honda tranny? Anyone know? Why is the Honda MTF so much better? Redline makes good motor oil...and the redline waterwetter stuff is good...so why would the tranny fluid suck? I personally use Honda MTF just because of what everyone has said...I'm just looking for a reason behind not using the Redline mtf.
I have actually heard some good things about a third fluid product called Amsoil. I haven't done much research on it, but I keep hearing about more people using it. Might wanna look into that.
