Default 97 Prelude Issues

I'm thinking of buying a used 97 Prelude SH, but it appears to have some of the problems typical of that year. The ATTS light is on permanently, and ATTS does not appear to engage on hard corners. Is a malfunctioning ATTS something that HAS to be fixed? I.E., will the car function normally (minus the ATTS obviously) without it being serviced? Or will leaving this unattended cause problems? I read that Honda made a revised control unit for the ATTS - anybody know how much this would likely cost?

I also noticed the interior roof (headliner where the ceiling meets the rear windshield) of the car tends to rattle (also a problem of the 97's I believe). Is there a known fix for this?

Much appreciate any insight you all may have.

I have both your problems, and I have a 98. My atts code is 42, pgmfi communication line. Headliner rattle...where the roof meets the front windshield. I think mine must be early in the 98 model year production.

btw, a brand-new atts unit costs around $2500, it's not worth it. I'd like to know the specifics of the revision. Me wants to think that they loosened up the parameters before the unit will throw a code for a specific fault. I tried a unit from a 99, with the same code to show up again.

Thanks for the info - 2500 is definitely more than I would want to pay. Will it hurt the car not to fix it? Or will not fixing it cause more problems?

nope won't hurt anything. it's been 1.5months since my light came on, and even if i reset it, it's back as soon as the ignition is turned on. i really do miss the benefit of it . At least we still get to enjoy the superior suspension that comes with the SH.
