OEM suspension and the aftermarket journey
Werd ...
Our ITRs were pretty well tuned straight from the factory .... welcome back!
The only suspension mod to my ITR is the Eibach Pro Kit, and it rides exactly like stock, just an inch or so lower. I was thinking of later on going for something more aggressive, but you do make a point. If it's a trailer queen .... 14K spring rates aren't a big deal .... if you drive your car anywhere else, it's just not practical.
The Pro Kit on my ITR is very practical ... too bad the Spoon carbon lip isn't at all

I have tried the oem suspension,
Then i switched to the spoon fixed damper/spring setup
then i tried the Mugen system.
Out of the three i preferred the spoon system, it just seems so much more solid, the mugen system is too soft and bouncy for my liking

I took my spoon N1's out for a weekend (14kg front, 12kg rear springs) and fitted the OE shocks/springs, yes it is a very very good set up and totally comfortable...but with waaaaaay too much body roll IMo compared to the N1's. So in went the N1s again a few days later and i havent looked back since.

When I pulled up to my parents house and as soon as I caught my breath, I had my dad make a spot for me in the garage to put the OEM suspension back in. I had enough of those Buddy Clubs. Not only this, I specifically remember the instance when the rear passenger side coil-over blew. The Dallas Fort Worth area, there was a lip on this bridge and I literally caught air will putting along at 70mph. The suspension didn't suck up the bump, it just launched me. Squirt! Strut fluid coating the wheel well.

What damper setting did you set it at? I have my Buddy club's for three years now and I never have a problem with it (thanks to Jack at P1). You'll have to play around with the damper setting and see what you like for street. Just a note (damper setting 1 front and 2 back) feels alot like stock.
Anyway good luck with the stock suspension.

am i one of the very few that rock the MUGEN N1 full coilovers? it seems like when people talk about the mugen setup its the cheaper $1000 system. According to my catalog, my springrates are anywhere between 16-28kg, its like a rock

No offense, but it's obvious you have no need for Mugen N1 suspension if you really believe that your spring rate is "between 16-28kg".
Springs that come with coilovers like the Mugen N1's are not progressive and have a fixed rate.

i have the catalog sitting right here next to me, my car has an autox setup, mugen n1 rear dampers, mugen front and rear sway bars, stock front struts/springs, cpillar, trunkbar, rearstrutbar, stock front strutbar and rear lower
i only mention 16-28kg not implying they are progressive, but because i got the coilovers with the car from my cousin, and he got them not knowing which rates they were, the catalog ranges rates from 16-28 but we don't know which set springs they are

You sure they are N1's? N1's on the street is nothing short of bone-jarring. It's not the springrate but the shock valving. I chose N-zeros because the N1's were too much for my needs (N-zeros for autox since N1's need an almost glass-smooth surface).
N1's don't come with springs. The sprngs on there could be a any spring the previous owner put on.

Sounds like your suspension choices have not been taylored to your style and situation.
The stock R stuff is nice, but obviously for track/autox there are better solutions. If I had to daily drive the R though, the stock stuff would be one of my top 3 choices.

my salvaged PY ITR came with omni pro's and i immediately removed them and put on stock suspension.
i love the stock suspension my 97 ITR, although on the road course the body roll does get quite annoying.

hmmm, your story rings a bell. did you buy the OEM suspension from someone in Seattle? I think you have my suspension I just sold to someone as part of a "three way deal" for him to get omni's and someone else to get stock R suspension. If so, your welcome
yup, i'm sure, the springs made for them have many options and its that KG range i mentioned earlier, settings 1-2 don't feel too bad, SLIGHTLY bouncy, but when on 5 sometimes it feels like i'm on air when at speed even through bumps, slow speeds are a different story
