just got a 98 DX.... so now what?
picked up a 98 Civic DX hatch... now I know that this car is rated pretty low in terms of power.
This is my first Honda, I've always been a Toyota/Lexus owner. So i want to ask my fellow HT members, what options I have that can give me more power for this little vehicle.
So far the only thing i found out about the engine is a D16Y7, so no vtec. Most ppl will say go for I/H/E, but I want to avoid the ricey sounding route. So would getting the I/H/E be a wise route to go?
I've done some reasearch, but doesn't seem like there is much aftermarket support for my puny D16Y7. Most I found is buddy-club universal bolt-on.
I'm open to suggestions and opinions.
Thanks!

before you do anything to your car .. i mean anything .. (dont go out and start buying useless crap ex:I/H) .. just hang around here for a couple months and read up.. you'll soon figure out exactly what you want out of your "civic"
suspension, handling, and turbo the d-series...
It's possible... Of course you won't keep up on the straights (depending on what cars you're comparing to) but it'll still be cheap and fun!

i wouldnt say a b series is complete garage, but for the money spent on a turbo d setup, youll never see that kind of power gain for that amount of cash from any b series.

screw a mini-me.
y8 intake manifold - less than ---$100
Delta 272 Cam (deltacam.com) -$90
a decent header - ~~$100-200?
chipped p06 with conversion harness (j-k-tuning.com) - $205
tuning - $100?
With these mods and an EX transmission you'll outperform any EX with anything short of a cam upgrade. If you're mainly focusing on having a car that will handle well these simple mods will probably be enough for you.
If you have the money higher compression pistons would really set this motor off!

SUSPENSION--
You might think about getting the solid chassis package from passwordjdm.com
H&R race springs, Tokiko (sp?) Illuminas, Si front and rear sway bars and brakes (Buy as a package if you can....later upgrade to the ITR rear sway bar)
This would make your car very exciting around corners.
Oh, of course don't forget tires...Falken Azenis get my vote.
good luck on the build.

best advice ever. chill for a few months until you know what you really wanna do with your car. but good shocks and coil overs wont hurt.

a real popular suspension combo for the track on here is koni yellows and ground control springs. maybe you should start with that since your gonna need it for a good track car anyways.
