Need new tires for boosted daily driver
So I have just gone through my 2nd set of Azenis 615s (205/50/15)
I have enjoyed these tires, but can anyone suggest anything different? The treadwear is not bad, but traction is horrible. I am puttin down roughly 360 whp and need something that will last about as long as the Azenis, but with not such a stiff side wall.
I know there's the BFG drag radials, but I don't think they will last near as long as the Azenis did. I want something that will last about as long, but hook better in the strait line.
All suggestions are welcomed.

i dont think there is much else that will hook better than the 615s without going to an r compound. how about the kumho mx? the sidewalls are a little softer, treadwear is a tad better, and wont cost you an arm and a leg.

If you want straight line traction, then get the drag radials. But you can't have better straight line traction than the Azenis and the same treadlife with the drag radials or any other tire. So you'll have to decide which is more important to you, straight-line traction or treadlife.

(assuming drag radials count as R compounds)

Not as much traction as the Azenis, so not what he's looking for...

How they compared to the Azenis as far as traction and wear?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yokohama makes a lot of tires under the Advan name.
The Advan AD07 is a street tire, and (in North America, at least) isn't available in 15", 16", or 17" sizes for our cars.
The Advan A032R and A048 are R compound track tires. They grip better than Azenis but need to be heated up to do so. They won't give much more than half the number of miles as Azenis.
There's no other street tire that will give as much traction as the Azenis. Since you're looking for more traction, your only choices are R compounds and drag radials whose treadlife is much less than the Azenis (which don't last all that long to begin with).

Thank you for the responses, sir. I had heard you were the expert on tires from somewhere. I guess the Azenis will have to work.
I have gotten anywhere from 9-11K miles on each set and the traciton isn't that bad, but I guess just about any tire is going to spin on these FWD cars.
I have a Quaife and traction bars and still spin a lot. But oh, well....

Azeni's are only good for road racing and daily driving.
If you are boosted and have 360hp(nice btw) then look into BF Goodrich KDW-NT's. I have them on my hatch, the NT's and they are worth it. Plus they have a 40,000 mile warrenty on the tire.
Someone already stated, get the G-Force T/A drag radial.
Post up how wide your rim is and I can give you better advice from their.

That's the one that Tire Rack calls the "KDW2". They don't grip as well as the Azenis. He's looking for more traction, not less...

But is a tire's grip the same for conventional handling purposes and high-HP straight-line performance? I see a lot of commentary from road-race people about a tire's grip, but very little from people with a car that will break traction and smoke both front tires in 4th gear at 100 MPH if you hit an expansion joint under full boost (like a boosted Civic with anything in the neighborhood of 400 WHP will). Without naaming any tire brands/models (don't want to open that can of worms again, so please keep it on topic), I've seen certain tires that come highly recommended for their superior grip perform in a very average manner in a high-HP straight-line scenario like at a drag strip. I've seen other tires that do not come so highly recommended perform very well in the same scenario. Any other high-HP (at least 350 at the wheels in a light platform like a Civic/Integra) FWD drivers have any relevant observations?

No. That's why they make drag radials, which are designed specifically to maximize straight-line performance, and conventional R compound track tires, which are designed for cornering.
The problem, in his case, is that he's looking for more straight-line traction than the Azenis, but equal treadlife. I don't think there are any tires that will provide both.
Personally, for someone primarily interested in straight-line performance in a high-horsepower application, I would suggest going with the drag radials, and living with the shorter treadlife...
