it really is a poor mans type-r. I also have a 96 spec itr ecu........if i put that on and rev to 8500 i should be fine right? and also will the 96 spec itr ecu pass smog? also after i slap on the b16 head will i need to get valve adjustment and a dyno tune?

the 96 itr ecu will not pass CA smog

you should go with a chiped and socketed p28 ecu and get some dyno tuning done

it is always a good idea to do adjustments are parts you prchase from private sellers

for smog just throw the stock gsr ecu back in and you should be fine

use the search button and type in "Poor mans type R" but to answer your question no it wont be faster. you will lose some compression by just dropping in a 1.6 head on a 1.8 block.

the car wont be faster with a fully stock head because you are losing compression but with a P&P and some other head work it will be of course

most people do it because supposedly the stock B16 head flows better than the stock GSR but the stock GSR flows more air

I believe this whole website was created to spread and share knowledge about hondas, it doesnt hurt to explain things to help them understand rather than get upset and tell them to seach

im sure everyone has been in a situation where they needed an answer quickly, rather than have to read through the acrchives searching for a direct answer to their problem no matter how simple of complicated it was

not trying to be a dick but it does hurt to help other people is all that im saying

lol i was going to make a thread of my own with exact same question...my friend told me to get rid of my head and swap in a head from the b16a2, and get the jdm itr pistons...

my friend has a clean set up, he has a b18c5 and the valve color is black...i think he might of changed his head to the b16...it sounds wierd but he's doing 12's all motor

so what do you guys think?....changing my head to the b16a2?...but i also heard that the stock gsr has bigger valves. damn all this **** is confusing

im sticking to jdm b16 head since its cheaper, but im going to be using civic type-r cams so hopefully nothing will go wrong.

the ITR head is the same cast as the B16 heads, it just comes with a port and polish from honda

the B16 head has the same size vavles as the GSR, all vtec heads share the same intenal part composition so they are all interchangeable with eachother

if you have the money port and polish your GSR head and it will out flow the b16 head in air flow characteristics and volume of air

if you're going to port and polish the head, there's really no point in swapping in a b16 head. b16 head does flow a little better but it's not really that big of a difference.

so your saying that the b16 and the itr are alike?..wow thats cool to now, i didnt know that, and they come port and polished?...some guy is charging me 130 bucks to port and polish my head...i might as well do that...will it raise my compression?. drop my compression?....my compression is at 13 so i dont want to go more than that

Don't go with the b16 head sell it if you can, itll bring your compression lower, save up and get the GSR or ITR head and port and polish it from there, or else you'll be building your b16 head to gsr/itr spec. thats just my .02

The ITR head will bring your compression down as well because it is the same exact cast as the b16.......

to compensate for the lower compression (which is only a loss of around .2) you can mill the head so that it will once again raise the compression

ITR and GSR heads were made from different casts so they have different flow patterns, and any P&P from a compitent machinist will be superior than the itr port and polish from the factory

all the itr head is, is a ported and polished b16 head with better valvetrain and cams

if you have a gsr head stick with it, P&P with after market valvetrain and cams and you will not regret it, stock block or not you will see power gains far over stock after tuning
