Default Time to clean the motor up and prep!

Hey guys I was getting ready to drop my K in and wanted to clean up the motor first its getting pretty nasty. What are the best ways to clean up the motor and transmission from all that grease and dirt.

I know that simple green will get SOME of it off but not in the cracks and kinks.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I have heard of sandblasting but where do you get that done at?

When I had my motor out, I just used a power washer and some soap and water. It worked for me.

Man, I'd be afraid as hell to do something like that, in or out of the car, fry something, hydrolock, or some crazy **** :-\ Blah, I never wash my engines for that reason, I may wash 'em when I completely strip them..but that's different...but that's what I'd do if the motor is out of the car, I'd strip it all down/clean all the parts, put it back together so it looks all shiny - ****, looks nice and gives me something to do O.o

hahaha... thats why you cover the intake or just take it off. i just cover the fuse box and and put like a workout towel over the spark plugs. let the car warm up the engine just a little where i can touch and it feels warm. take simple green and just spray that **** everywhere. let it sit for about 15 (well i like to spray a little here and there on dry spots). then take the hose with a nozzle and just spray away works great!

I don't think you should sandblast a motor when assembled. Possibly if it was torn down for rebuild. I Use a acid free wheel cleaner and soft brush to clean my engine and bays. Avoid electronics and connectors with high water pressure.

I have a pressure washer that I can put cleaner in. I put some simple green in cover all the fuses intake dixxy and plug wires. Get it wet. Spay the green stuff everywhere. Wait a few mintues and pressure wash it off. Then if there is any spots that didn't clean very well I hit them again and wipe with a rag. When it is all done and everything is just wet (no more cleaner) dry off any painted areas with a terrycolth or microfiber rag and make sure the your intke battery etc is nice and dry. Let the car run for a while to really get everything dry and your done.

Since you motor is out just cover up any openings and do this. You will be amazed.

The motor is out of my car lol sorry maybe I should have mentioned that.

and there are no wires connected to it its just stand alone and the tranny is just hooked on it other than that its BARE!!!!

I think the brake cleaner thing might work....?

id just clean it with a rag as much as you can and spray the whole motor and tranny with some good silver (or motor looking like paint).
