Do Accord auto trannys suck like Civic auto's do?
Are Accord auto tranny's better than Civic auto trannys? Do they shift smoother? I'm looking to buy a second car, and I want it to be an auto, so that eliminates a Civic unfortunatley. I sold my 98 Civic LX because I hated the auto tranny. Maybe I'll just get a Corolla.
pretty mcuh all honda trannies before 2000 shifted a little bit harder than other manufacturers. i guess if that makes them suck tha tis your preference....i have found that honda auto trannies overall to me are excellent in general, i have rarely seen ones from other manufacturers that will make it to 250k miles or more without a rebuild.
ive had a few honda and acura auto trannies and they all where pretty much the same. there is really not a difference in the auto transmissions between accord and civic. but my current car is a accord lx coupe with a auto trannie and it is the best auto tranny i have ever had...next to my 93 integra GS.
before 1998 Honda Accords did not retard the timing or throttle during the shifts. After 1998 They changed that but the V6 autos are crap in terms of reliabiility. When the CL got the 3.0L in '97 they also retard timing and fuel during shifts...
what would you rather have, firm shifts or crap transmissions?
I take firm shifts any day of the week

Yeah, when I say suck I mean not smooth shifting/not shifting when they "should". Not slamming their longevity necessarily. The best auto trannies I've experienced were in 2 Corollas (89, 91) and a 1990 Celica.
What does retardng timing do when shifting?

less power pushed through the transmission during the shift. Most automakers retard the timing and fuel as much as possible so that the sift is very smooth (soft).

yeah, I'm at 236,xxx miles on my '95 auto accord and it shows no signs of messing up.
