What would you do?
Hey,..I'm new to the site. I just bought a 92 Prelude Si and it needs alot of work but when I was looking under the hood I found that someone had swapped an F22B DOHC, non-vtec motor in. Would you keep this motor instead of swapping an H22 or H23a? Also..when I push the clutch in too far it sounds like the starter is being engaged...any reasoning for that? Any help or opinions is welcomed. Thanks.
An F22B is 90% the same as an H23 and is often used as a replacement. It has iron sleeves (so it will accept forged pistons) as opposed to the H23s FRM sleeves (which won't). It's a good engine.
Thanks for the help guys. I plan on doing so much to this car. To be completely honest I'm not sure what model it is yet because the kid that had it before me completely primered it and stripped the entire interior except driver and passenger seat and dash. So, I've got my work cut out for me. I just know that I'm definetely going to head towards a boosted motor and wasn't sure of availability of parts for an F22B or even what model car to look under because most of the F22 parts are for SOHC. Wasn't sure if they interchanged. Thanks again.
Yeah, as for availability of parts, you can use any H23 head stuff (Crower cams, Rocket valvetrain, Supertech valves, etc for example), plus H23 intake and exhaust manifolds.
And to find out what model the car originally was, just look at the VIN number on the dash. If it says BA8, then it was an S model, but if it says BB1 or BB4 it was an Si or VTEC.

well he said it was an Si at top... but with an f22 swapped in. If it doesn't have the airbags then it is not an Si it is an S... and ifso facto... f22 stock.... but wait... i'm being dumb now because I now realise I miss read and it's an f22b...
to me
LoL!

It's a good motor.........but before you try and boost anything you better READ READ READ READ READ READ READ READ!

Ok..it is an Si. Thanks for the tips. Definetely trying to read everything I can before I begin to boost. I know nissan motors pretty well but I'm new to anything other than B series motors. I know that the H series are pretty stout and that's why I was excited when I found it....then dumbfounded when I saw the F22B..then excited again when I realized it wasn't such a bad thing afterall. I'm glad alot of the parts from a H23 will interchange..that settles a main concern I had. Thanks for being so helpful. It's not looking like much now but I'm going to try to get some pictures up soon.
Sorry to bring this thread back up but can someone vouch that any aftermarket engine parts for an H23 will definetely work. I'm kindof worried and I need to know whether to get parts for an H22 or H23 to get them to work on the JDM F22B. Thanks again.
