It only seems appropriate to bump this thread with a question:

In short, what are the ins and outs? I have been planning on doing this myself for a minute now and didn't really know there were pro's and con's worthy of note. Clue me in...

5mm aint ****, people put on 5mm to help brake clearence, not for an appearance enahancement.
5mm is 0.19 inches.

I think you need to use extended studs so you don't lose the use of 5mm (or however big your spacers are) of the threads. It doesn't seem like they'd be necessary for 5mm, but somebody who knows more than me can clarify that.

Actually, my intent is for a 38mm offset. So the extended studs would have an obvious application, however, would using a spacer and extended studs this big be even feasable for this? I know rims can be ordered with such an offset but I found a pretty nice deal on a set and was hoping to use whatever spacers necessary to compensate.

So you're buying wheels in a 43 offset and you wanna use a spacer to go to 38...I don't think you need extended studs because of a 5mm spacer. As somebody else said, that's less than 2 tenths of an inch. I'm sure somebody else can give you a definitive answer but I can't see why .19" less thread space would make anything unsafe.

i got spacers from H&R 5mm and they give you a set of extended lugs incase you do need them...but with my wheel and lug combo, i didnt need them...but you might depending on the wheels and lugs you use on ur car

Oh man, I think you have the wrong idea. I am wanting a 38+ offset. Dave is the one who brought up the 5mm spacers. I want spacers, not 5mm, just spacers. Thing is I do not know where the wheels already sit (I will have them in a week). So I may want spacers "big enough" to put them out where I want them.

It sounds like you're halfway done this already. Why don't you finish, then post your experience and some pics for the rest of us who are just thinking about it?

5mm are a waste of money, you can't really see a difference, go at least 10mm

Have you done it? Do you have pics? There seems to be a lot of opinion on this thread, but not a lot of real knowledge or experience. I you have the knowledge/experience, please share, with pics. The rest of us would like to know.

5mm = 0.1969 inches

people use 5mm to clear calipers or to use wheels w/ a smaller bore size.

if you want 5mm for cosmetics, you're not gonna see a big difference.
