Well im 20, a student, and need a new car! So i narrowed it down to a Honda Fit or a Scion xA. These are in my price range, but i wanted some opinions from you guys. So if anything u can tell me about it, that would be great.

You're a student, so from a financial perspective, why would you drop 15 grand on a car?

Buying a $5000-$6000 used car (like a Civic) would make a helluva lot more sense.

But that's just me...

If you have the financial resources to get a new car you have to ask yourself what will you ultimately do with your car. If you are looking for a performance aspect then you are looking into the wrong segment of cars. Both the Scion xA and the Honda Fit are generally the same mechanically that is. The only differences are the physical aspects. The Scion xA may be slightly less expensive but the options like stereo and TRD stuff adds up. The Honda Fit has less options but in my opinion looks better. I also prefer the interior layout of the Fit. I really think that the center mounted gauges dont look good. I can see why you cant decide. Both are good cars. I would suggest to test drive both and see which one you enjoy most. I have driven both. I drove a stock Fit and my friend's xA. After that I liked the Fit more because of the interior.

you sound like me man. i started off w/ a 1992 eg hatch and i decided i need a new car. so came april 27th, i went to my credit union and i told em i need a loan. they gave me 15000 and i had 2 put 4500 down for the fit. Well i make 11.35 an hr and i work 35 hrs a week and i go 2 school so i am financially stable. I rolled off the lot w/ a vivid blue pearl fit sport w/ everything in it. I didnt even test drive the car cuz i knew what i wanted, this brand new car w/ tons of parts available from overseas. newayz i hope that helps u.

The aesthetics of this car, interior/exterior, made it near impossible not to get. Economically fitting. Practical.

And... I have owned many Honda's. So I am partial.

Dude, don't waste $18,000 on a new car. Just buy some decent used Honda or Toyota for $6000 and save the $12,000 on living and travelling. Cars are just huge liabilities. It's like paying up front all the money you'd spend on a girlfriend for 5 years. But then the problem is what if you get sick of her in 3 months and you've already paid for 5 years. You're screwed. So spend less and enjoy life more.

As a student you should pay close to cash for a vehicle or at least have a very small monthly payment that's barely a fraction of your income.

This I whole-heartedly agree with.

I've been workin a lot along goin to school. I have enough spare change to invest in a car. If i look for a car around 5-6k, i would like it to be a used miata. Or 99-00 civic si. Hard to find those tho. If i wanted a fit, i would need to take a loan out. =\

IMHO... If you need to take out a loan for this car... Don't do it.

Don't spend... what you don't have.

i'd have to agree with buying a cheaper car

I drive a 10+ year old honda and it's still realiable. I eventually want a fit for daily commute

just get a 6000bucks civic that would still be fun to drive, and no need to stick with a loan .... no point

You have probably already heard more than you wanted to----but. I had the same choice and what made the difference was the side curtain air bags on the Fit. They are standard and face it, this is a small, light car. Some bozo runs a light and "T-bones" you you'll be damn glad that you have them. CCC
