Default K&N drop in filter for 99 ls . Should I leave the top cover of factory airbox on or off?

I just purchased a K&N drop-in filter for my bone stock integra ls. The filter looks just like the cone filters on the short ram intakes. Anyway, I installed the filter and noticed that I could just leave the top part of the intake box off and it would be just like a short ram intake. The car feels a little faster too with better throttle response. However, I also know that it was be sucking in more hot air. What do you guys think? Should I leave the top of the factory airbox on or off?

If it has a cone shaped filter, couldn't you leave both parts of the box off?

I suppose I could, but nothing would be holding the filter up especially with the flexibility of the stock intake arm. It was designed to be enclosed in the box. But it feels a bit more responsive with the top off.

leave the box on but take the intake resontor off in the fender it sounds good like that and gives a little better throttle response and it also still sucks cold air.

Yes. The stock resonator actually draw hot underhood air from behind the ABS unit. The ITR resonator draws air from insode of the right fender. I removed the resonator from my GSR and replaced it with a piece of custom pipe to draw from the fender.

In stock form, running with or without the airbox lid is basically equivalent. Regardless, this is not going to make a significant HP gain.

Is it the same with the ls? as far as the fender resonator drawing in warm air?

Yes. Only the ITR draws cooler fender air. Here is the diagram for the LS. Notice that part 5 goes through the fender to return to under the hood.
