Default S2000 owner needs help with 00 Accord EX V6 purchase - Help!

Hi folks,

I own a 2003 S2000 and want a cheap, RELIABLE, 4door automatic commuter car. My gf owns a 2000 CRV EX, and I enjoy turning my own wrenches so I'd like to buy a HONDA and work on all 3 cars with ease.

I locally found a 2000 Accord EX V6, automatic, with 73000 miles. One female owner, clean condition, had front bumper & hood replaced from a minor accident. Does not have receipts for maintenance but recalls routine maintenance was performed.

Being a car fanatic I did some research and it seems like the mighty reliable Honda Accord has some problems.. especially the automatic transmission. The seller states the car has never had any transmission problems, but what can I do to make sure I won't be replacing the tranny in 6 months?? I checked the ATF and it looked ok. Also, is it a small % of Accord V6s w/ AT problems, or a vast majority?

In addition, what are other key items I need to inspect before buying this car? Any help is greatly appreciated.

BTW, we love our CRV, and I thought about buying ANOTHER CRV, but an Accord would be better for highway trips & such.. thanks!

good job doing your homework. yes they did have some problems but 85% of them that are going to go bad already have. If you give me the VIN # i can tell you what the cars warranty repair history is.

hi - thanks for the help!

I do not have the Accord VIN with me right now but I'll post when I get it. Meanwhile this is VIN for new-to-us 00 CRV - could you run it for me? thanks

2000-01 accords are covered by 7 year 100K mile warranty.

Very few of these transmissions will last the life of the car and most of them will need overhaul or replacement at or before 150K
