Default How do you unhatch a 98 civic door locks?

How do you unhatch the 98 civic door locks so that the only way of opening your doors is to use your car alarm remote? Are there any how-tos online about this? or is the best way is to get it professionally done?

Not smart, since you won't be able to get in your car if your batteries die, it loses programming or gets lost, but it's your car, so whatever...

But I'm not understanding if you mean actually opening the door by remote or simply only being able to unlock the door by remote... You're not very clear.

you mean you want to shave the exterior keyhole and/or handle? does this also mean removing the inside mechanisms...if it has factory locking, it maybe as easy as disconnecting the interior switches.

its fine if you have another way of getting in the car, if "your batteries die, it loses programming or gets lost"

if you own a hatch, un hook the front doors only, and leave the hatch key in place...

if you own a coupe/sedan - figure out a way to get in from the trunk, before u start removing the locks...

Take the interior panel off and look at the backside of the handle at the key cylinder. It's all very self-explanatory. There's a retaining ring you pry off with a pick. Then pull the bar out of the latch side. They can still slim jim the car so maybe get some piping or sheet metal and block things off.

I have done a car that had shaved door handels. I installed a fail safe so if the car battery was to ever die or that the alarm went south it could be poped open by hooking up 12volts to a easy to get location secure location on the car. This is the route you need to go. Its not hard and you don't need to be a rocket sience to do it.

Shaving is not necessary, and shaving alone does not prevent someone from slim jimming the door handle bar.

You can just disconnect the key cylinder and then protect the door bars with a piece of sheet metal or a pipe.
