Aftermarket sunroof potential?
Hey guys-
Just wondering if anyone here has considered/looked into getting an aftermarket power sunroof installed in a USDM Fit. Considering this is an option on most other Hondas and is not available at all on the Fit, I figured I couldn't be the only one wondering about the feasibility of this. My girlfriend has expressed interest in buying a Fit (it would be her first Honda- c'mon guys, help me out here!), but says the lack of a sunroof is a real sticking point. Any feedback would be appreciated either way, if you think it's not such a great idea, please tell me why. Thanks...

We had one at our dealership yesterday. The install was very nice -- relocated dome light and custom headliner.
It doesn't rain a lot here so leaking isn't a huge concern, but it didn't leak in the car wash. I've heard horror stories about poorly installed sunroofs that drained the runoff behind the dash causing really bad rust out problems. I guess it all depends on how well it's done.
The extra light in the cabin really does make a big difference.

I wouldn't so much be worried about leaks as I would damaging the structural integrity of the vehicle. If the car wasn't designed to have one in it from the factory, then it probably shouldn't be there.
That's my take on aftermarket sunroofs.

You know, I never thought of that but that's a very good point.

But it was designed to have one. Go to Honda's UK website and build a Jazz (http://www.honda.co.uk). One of the options for the 1.4 liter models is a sunroof.
Admittedly, an aftermarket sunroof may not have exactly the same reinforcement at a factory one, but this makes me fairly sure that the Fit's basic roof structure was designed for a sunroof.

I don't know. That's a good question. Looks like at least some of the Jazzes (plural of Jazz?) for Europe are built in China. Here's some info: http://world.honda.com/news/2005/c050624.html
The US Fits are at least mainly built in Japan (mine was). I think the ones actually sold in Japan are built there too. I wonder if any Japan-market Fits get sunroofs. If so, that would mean there really is no difference for the US-market Fits.
