Default h22a closed deck headgasket

I have a h22a closed deck block and need a headgasket for it. I honestly dont know what year the block is and dont really know how to find out. I am new to h22's, but from what i think i know.. the h22a1 was also closed deck. I got a headgasket for a h22a1 but it is completely different. The block i have has 2 long oil returns on each end of the block. The headgasket has 2 longs ones on one end and 2 smaller ones on the other end. I did a little bit of searching on here but really came across no information. Any know what im dealing with?

If it is a closed deck H22a, then an H22A1 gasket should work. I'm sure you understand the difference between close and open deck, so I don't think that's the problem (wrong HG). Have you tried orienting the HG in different ways? I had my HG upside down before and thought it didnt fit either.

BTW, I used a H22A1 gasket (bought from dealership) on my JDM H22A closed deck without any problems. Not sure if that helps any. Let us know how it goes.

the problem is that i have no idea what year the block is. I do understand the difference between closed deck and open deck.

The oil returns on each end of the block are the same length. My block looks exactly like this except it is closed deck. This block is from a 2000.

The headgasket that i bought had two long oval oil ports .. but two shorts ones on the other end of the gasket.

*edit* this is what the headgasket looks like that i got.... if you notice on one end the oil return reliefs are much shorter. It wont line up on the block right of course.

Yes. You should check to see if they gave you the right HG.
