Default Thinking about trading my 1.8T GTI in for a FIT!

Hey, i currently own a 05 VW GTI 1.8T and its fairly modded. Its on a Revo 4bar program with a bunch of other bolt ons and what not. I currently commute ~100 miles per day, from work and back. So on with the topic, I recently test drove a Honda Fit and that car is amazing...it does not have power, but it can handle like a dream. The Fit gets 48mpg on highway which would be wonderful for my driving....and the Fit only weighs 2400lbs which would be a great project car as well...drop in a k20 and there you have it..the price for the Fit is 16,000 out the door. What do you guys think? Trade-in the GTI for the Fit or keep it...The original idea is to have a fun, reliable, gas saving daily driver, and still have a lot of potential for modding.

Oh, and do you guys think there would be room after a k20 swap in the FIT for a supercharger or a turbo? I really am a turbo person and it would be great to have a fit with a turbo in it

I think you already know what you want from this statement...
"The original idea is to have a fun, reliable, gas saving daily driver, and still have a lot of potential for modding."

I like the GTI and was thinking about getting one before I got the Fit. That is one of the best things about the Fit in my opinion... so much room for mods.

EDIT: Your a little off on the estimated MPG's.
Estimated: 33 mpg city/38 mpg hwy

Thanks for correcting me...yea 38 MPG is still wonderful to me...and the modding would be A LOT cheaper as well...it would cost half of what i would sepnd on modding the GTI to have it "done"

Only thing is, parts are still being fitted for this vehicle USDM and wont be available for a little while. But who's really in a hurry?

Note: I see you're from the same area as me. "Neighbor"

Hmmm... me thinks you misguided. If you've got a modded VW GTI I'm not sure you'll be completely satisfied going with the Fit. I would suggest a Mini Cooper S. It handles very well and gets decent gas mileage. And it's much faster than a Fit. The Fit is ridiculously slow due to it's weak engine - and that's perfectly the right thing for me and other owners because the flip side is economy. Remember also that VWs and Audis and some Porches have long stroke motors which provide higher torques at lower rpms than a Honda which means it's a different driving experience entirely.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure "Nunya" is in the state of "your bizness".

Hahah... Something just dawned on me.

You couldn't have expected a more biased opinion on this subject on a Honda dedicated site in a Honda Fit thread.

DO IT. GET ONE!

I would say as long as you know the limits of the Fit compared to your GTI, and OK with them, then by all means make the change. The Fit has a pretty large tuning base in Japan and overseas, so it's just a matter of time before it really starts to take off here too. My Scion xB was the same way, and now there's a fair number of good mods out for it now, so with the Fit I think it's a similar situation. Like Tsuchiya said once, "It's often more fun to drive an underpowered car at 100%, then to drive a fast car at less."

i would keep the gti,by the time you by a fit and you were talking about swapping a k20 in it and such, you could put that money in the gti and have a hella fast car!

good first post . After a while you will get lazy and start posting just bits and pieces of information with horrible spelling and grammer like the rest of us though

Back on topic: I say go for the Fit.

I'm thinking of trading my 00 Golf for the fit....I long for the days of a car that the engineering makes sense, and anything that breaks can easily be fixed.
