Kumho 711s Vs. Falken 512s....which one???
Ok so my hach is soon going to need some new tires. I've been seeing some great deals on these two particular tires (200 or less mounted balanced installed). I will be using the 195/50/15 size(I've been told several times this is the best size for EGs). Which one should I get. I found a used set of 711s for 150(all tires look to be fairly new) or a set of brand new 512s for 30 more. For a daily driven car that does occasionally like to go to the track(both strip and road course, but only about once or twice a year). Or is their a better tire for the money?
My main concerns are(in order):
-how long it'll last
-performace
-cost
however I am/will be on a budget so if you reccomend another tire please make sure it's under 75!
BTW I live in sunny so cal so extreme wet/cold weather is exceptionally rare.

the two worst tires in the world. Take a look at the Kumho SPT and they are around the 50-70 price. Also they are so much better in every way possible then both your tires mentioned. Also take a look at the Dunlop FM901 it is a little cheaper but a good tire too.
ok, thanks. what makes these tires so bad though? I have 502s on there right now(the 512s predecessor) and I think they are ok, but sometimes they don't like to really hook up.
I have the 711 and they have not grip at all and are horrible in the rain. I have driven the SPT and the ES100 and they are 10x better. Also the Dunlop are very good better the Fuzion ZRI. Also the 512 or 502 are all season tires and not a summer tire so the grip you get from them are not comparable to a summer tire.
Do what you want but for the price of the SPT it will be the best bang for the buck you will ever get.
Do what you want but for the price of the SPT it will be the best bang for the buck you will ever get.
Also take a look at this.
(the prices are all for 195-50-15)
the Fuzion ZRI at 61$ at the tirerack right and you stated they were very good for economical tires.
Well the ES100 which is a better tire is also 61$/tire at the tirerack.com
the Kumho SPT is 51$/tire which is the best bang for the buck tire a little better then the ES100.
the Dunlop FM901 is 52$/tire it is a good tire too but not as good as the SPT and the ES100
All these tires are better then the Fuzion ZRI and are cheaper too. So you take your pick.
I would go with the SPT awesome tire and 10x better then the 711 or 512.

Yes your right the Direzzas are nice but compared to the SPT they don't come close to it in performance and price.
SPT= 51$
Direzzas Dz101= 61$
So the best tire is still the SPT!!!!
In the tireracks test the SPT beat the ES100 in every test possible but it was very close.

I disagree with that. Perhaps you're thinking of the Dunlop Direzza DZ101, instead of the FM901?

First off, Kumho tires are horrible, the 711's, the 712's, both the new SPT and AST. The only Kumho tire I would even think about buying would be the MX, but I woudln't even buy that.
Dunlap are just as worse. Don't even bother.
And who ever mention the Fuzion Zri's are completely retarded and risk of dying.
Tires are the most important part of a car, besides suspension. Fuzion ZRi's are a offbrand tire and are horrible.
As for the 195-50-15's, decent tire size but go with 205-50-15's and have much better safety.
Since you live in Cali, save up a bit more and look at the BF Goodrich G-Force Sports, they are an amazing tire and you can't beat the price. But since you are on a budget, the Falken Zeix 512's are better then the Dunlaps, and Kuhmo's.
Hope this helps,
Taylor

I've used both tires you listed on my 91 DA9. I hoestly hated the Falkens. I wouldn't buy used tires either if you're going to take the car to the track. Look on the inside of the kuhmos and see if they have patched, if they were don't even consider them. Falkens wear too fast. I have 15" 5Zigen FNOR1-C's and Kuhmo 711 Ecsta.... They're a great combo.....though the SPT's are a much better tire for the $

Sorry, but I've got to disagree with your flat-out statement. Sure, the 711, 712, and AST are pretty bad. But the SPT is an excellent tire in the "bang for the buck" category, with better wet performance and equal dry performance to the Yoko ES100, at a lower price. And the MX is also excellent for anyone who is looking for good dry traction without the expensive price of some other tires like top-of-the-line Bridgestones or BFG's.

Again, I disagree. Sure, some of Dunlop's tires are not very good, like the FM901. But the Direzza DZ101 is an excellent entry in the "bang for the buck" category, and it's often priced less than other similar tires. The SP Sport Maxx is also very good, not as good as the very best top-of-the-line tires around (e.g. Goodyear F1 GS-D3) but it's a worthy tire, much better than its SP9000 predecessor.

I disagree again. The Fuzion is made by Bridgestone. The ZRi isn't quite as good as other "bang for the buck" tires like the SPT or ES100, but it's decent, and better than the crappy tires in this segment like the FM901 or 712.

There is no added safety in getting a larger, wider tire.

The G-Force Sport is crap, similar to the 712 and FM901, tires which are so bad that their manufacturers were forced to introduce new products (SPT and DZ101) to compete with tires like the ES100.

No, they're not. And anyone in California doesn't need a crappy all-season tire like the Ziex ZE-512.
I disagree with almost all of your comments, and I can only conclude that you haven't tried most of the tires you're commenting about, and that you've never driven on a racetrack, which reveals differences between tires. And I also don't believe you work for a tire dealer; otherwise you would at least be able to spell the brands and models that you're talking about.

So true and you got owwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnedddddd!!!!!!!! Seriously before posting like you just did you should at least have a little knowledge of what you are talking about. You don't even back you information up and certainly when you can't even spell the names right! No credibility.
TO the OP get the SPT or the ES100 end of story!

Well I can only reply for the Falken Ziex 512's since I got them and they suck ars........ I mean if you just need some cheap tires they are good for the money but performance they are not even close to being performance tires. Yes I understand that you get what you paid for but I think you could spend just a bit more and get a lot better tires.
In the rain they're good, in the snow (I live in MN) they're ok, well good enough. Handling is where they are not good, seems like the sidewalls move on you. Does not make me confident at all making hard turns going when I'm going fast.
I give it a 6.5/10 even with the price.

I'm EXTREMELY happy with my Kumho SPT's. I've driven about 250 miles so far and I couldn't be happier for the money I spent.
My brother has the 512's on his car and I wasn't at all impressed with them. They're a decent tire, but bang-for-buck wise, the Kumho blows them out of the water, as it should comparing an ALL-SEASON (512) to a SUMMER (SPT) tire.

Wow, how does Wheel/Tire attract such aggressive "I pretend to know everything about tires so listen to me" kind of people?
Another SPT owner here. Awesome tire. Grips hard, feels like I'm driving in the dry when it's wet out, and tread life should be relatively good.
