Default my brand new **** is leaking oil! HELP!!!!!

ive been building this engine for a long time. and today was the day i was going to put it in my car. the engine is a used b18c5 block with an used obd1 b16 head. i went to start it started great first try, but then noticed oil squirting with some decent amount of pressure. looks like its coming from between the head and block, but i cant tell right where its coming from... i took these pics to help

you can see where the oil is sitting on the thermostat housing. that corner is just about where its shooting out from! has anyone ever had this problem? i dont know if the b16 head was used for a LS/VTEC build before. im using a 2001 type-r head gasket (OEM).

PLEASE HELP

your head gasket is on upside down and backwards... it is covering up one of the oil passages, thus causing oil to squirt out on the back side of the engine between the head and the block

That would be my guess as well.

Good to see that everything else fired up right for you though! Sucks that that clean *** block is all dirty now though I take it you had the head milled and block decked right?

Copper in a can kinda of. It makes for a good seal on all types of gaskets.

i checked it, looks like the part # tab is right behind the timing belt cover on the front side. being upside down and backwards would make it like that?

yep, go get a new gasket, and reinstall the head.

The gasket is NOT reusable, and I highly suggest just using gasket, no sense in using copper spray on something that already makes a great seal. Afterall, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

At this point you are going to have to remove the head reguardless.... so while it is off, make sure that it wasnt tapped for ls/vtec. Also no need to use the copper spray on the head gasket. just install a new one along with new head bolts

Why the expletive is everyone insisting on copper spray?!?!?

Prove to me why a properly level head, and level, decked block wont seal?!?!?!

That will work as well. also keep in mind that if it was a ls/vtec head... there would be a fitting on the head where the oil feed line would go into. just somthing to think about. just make sure that when you place the new gasket on there that ALL of the oil and coolant passages line up. if i remember correctly the "gold" colored part that mates aginst the cylinder sleeves should face down aginst the block

Thats not necessarily true if someone welded the oil passages then had the head milled...you wouldn't be able to notice at that point where the passages even are =/

i fixed the head gasket problem, its was in upside down! now i got oil slowly dripping from between the engine and tranny. most likely going to have to drop the tranny!

OH YEAH BTW i didnt use any copper spray, just a brand new oem gasket!
