Search is kind of wonky right now, but I found some discussions about swapping the rack versus converting the ITR rack (looping the lines). Apparently the Civic CX manual rack is a popular option, but with a slower ratio. Since it doesn't involve spending much money, I'd loop the lines on your ITR rack.

Anecdote - The PS pump on my old wagon started leaking like crazy, so I just cut the belt. Effort is only heavy at very low (ie hauling the wheel while barely moving) speeds. I ditched the pump and looped the lines, which helped a hair, since the fluid has less resistance. Good stuff.

just tear apart the rack and take the seals out. You wont have to run fluid, aka don't have to loop the lines. It will be eaiser to turn this way.

Yes, the 92-95 Manual rack will fit.

I have one in my car. Saves alot of weight and much better feel. And I did have powersteering, then a looped rack, then the manual.

IMO the manual was much better.

Very simple swap, I have a how-to floating around somewhere....

What makes it better, if you don't mind?

Sorry but manual racks, as in the ones that came in CX Civics totally suck. The weight that you save does not make up for the road feel that you lose because the lock to lock ratio is so tall that the on center dead spot makes the car literally feel retarded.

I thought that was what I remembered, so I was curious. I'm still using the OEM rack w/the PS removed. Seems just fine to me.

I was afraid I was missing something.

Do you mean the Quaife kit?

On a DC2 ITR, wouldn't it give you about the same overall effect as properly unhooking and looping your PS system, but continuing to use the OEM rack?

IMO, that's definitely the way to go.

then don't just pull them off.....loop it properly with good hardware with a breather to keep the pressure down. You can make it as uncheap as you want depending on how much you feel like spending on fittings.

I can't believe y'all would spend extra money on a "free" mod.

well you're going to have to buy some fittings, but you could do it for about $10 or $50 depending on what you got. Just leaving the belt off or looping the lines closed, feels horrible in comparison to with a breather.

Nah, the way you phrased it - "so it feels like i upgraded instead if ghetto fabbing it "

Just cracked me up. I was lucky on the wagon - the two lines from the PS pump just happened to mate up, else I would have been doing something similar, but using whatever I could find at Ace hardware

For the last time where can you buy a basic barb to go along side the OEM one thats already in the rack? I cant find any in metric diameters and dont feel like going with special fittings or SS line when theres no pressure going through.

For those of you who criticise the manual rack in an Integra, have you ever driven one?

If not, then your opinion is irrelevant. You are more than welcome to come and drive mine.

Yes the ratio is slower, but not much. IMO, I feel much better knowing that my rack is being used the way it was designed to, unlike the power rack conversions.

I've had the pleasure of owning and driving 5th gen, 6th gen Civic power and manual racks.

I wouldn't have said what I did if I didn't think it made the car feel rather numb.

The fact is, it is slower. (We agree....REJOICE!)

Also the fact is, it's MY opinion that I find it dulls the car to the point where _I_ personally, IMHO do not find it acceptable.

Just like you personally feel the manual rack is being used the way it was designed to, I'm sure there are those who also feel it's less work (looping/venting) and just as effective to convert the P/S to go manual or gutting it.

No the difference isn't much I've had a manual rack for 3 years. A friend also swapped his out (in a type R) after driving mine. Putting a manual rack in your integra is fine if that is what you want to do. If you get a used unit change the bellows out though.
