Default konis in itr

I just installed my koni yellows on the front of my car but I'm having trouble figuring out what to set the rear ones at. The car is street driven and AutoX whenever I can. Anyone with helpful hints out there please let me know

Assuming you have single adjustables your goal is to set the rebound to control the energy stored in the springs.

If the car feels to floppy, floatly or unstable during braking in the rear, you are not controlling the springs and you should increase the rebound dampening.

If the rear end feels like it is ratcheting down, sudden transitional oversteer, rear wheel hop or skitterish reduce the rear dampening. You are over controlling the springs.

Specific settings, numbers or turns won't help you, every tire, surface, wheel rate, roll center, roll bars, track width........... are different and will result in your car handling, balance differently from every one else.

Make careful notes and try to start off with as minimal amount of rebound as possible and you feel comfortable with, 3/4 turn, If you feel the car is unstable in braking or too floaty increase the rebound . Most drives will feel safer and more comfortable with excessive rebound setting but over controlling the springs will not allow the springs time to relax between transitions. The car will feel predictable and secure but will likely be slow to react and slow on the time sheet.

Concentrate on what your feeling and make big changes in settings to begin with. When your confident in what you feel, fine tune your adjustments.

FYI, The Koni yellows for the ITR are not externally adjustable. They have to be adjusted before you install them.

I believe they come from the factory full soft.

There are various shops that will make them externally adjustable. Price ranges from ~ $120 per shock (Koni) to $250 per shock (True Choice).

i think somone told me that the rear koni adjustable for the itr is the same as a front shock from a 88-91 crx. That could be 100% wrong but i think thats what he said.

Maybe the same as the rear for 88 only, since they share common (or nearly) LCA's.

Well the problem I'm having is that I know that you can't adjust them on the car so I'm trying to figure out how I can set them and just leave them alone. It's alot of work to take them back off and put them back on. I know it's just cutting corners but the autoX season is here and I'm closing on a house next friday so I'll be doing alot of work on the house for the next few months. It won't leave me much time to play with the settings on those rear konis.

Right, this is the $100, 000 question - what to set them at for an entire season. I'd say set them around 1/2 to 3/4 hard and be done with it.

I wish the search feature was working, because I asked this question before. Someone had a method of jacking up the rear, and adjusting the rears while they're still on the car.

I might have printed off this thread, I'll look at home.

Either get them modified for adjustability or set them at 3/4 and forget about them.

Honestly, I think ajusting the front will keep me more than busy this summer. I will probably leave things set at 3/4 stiff all around until I get used to the setup. Hopefully by Topeka I will be in a position to "dial-in" the car with the front shocks. Maybe next year I worry about rear adjustables.

With few exceptions most people should concentrate on becoming better drivers.......myself included.

I didn't print off the thread about how to adjust the rears while still on the car. I really wish the search feature worked, there's a treasure of information that's buried and un-reachable.

Someone on the Type R forum had done this.
