Default install timing belt help please TDC?

b18c1

I have TDC on cyl number one....but because of my aftermarket cam gears I'm not sure which way is "up" for the gears....does the metal pin thing that holds the gears in place face up? If not which way do they go? Thank you.

I did that...it's the top I have a problem with...

THIS IN NOT A PIC FROM MY CAR!
just a reference pic....

I'm not sure which one of those marks goes with what....which way do the "dowel pins? go?....you know those metal pins behind the bolt that keep the cam gears from moving independent of the cam???? If it helps, I have JG cam gears. Please help....

To make things easier, get some small punches or allen wrenches and turn the cams til the holes in the top line up and you can drop the punch in there to hold them in place.

Check your helms for more detail, you'll see exactly what i'm talking about.

I have the p72 head and there are no holes...I looked at a online version of hte manual and it DID have holes....my head does not have them...

edit:
are they(holes) under the supprt brace that goes on top of the cam caps?

found the holes...they were not at the end like the manual states, they were in the middle on the cam shafts...I thought they were oil drain holes that's why I didn't pay any attention to them..oh well, got er' done!

wen u put the new cams on, theres a notch that slips in. when those notches are up at the top, the head is a tdc. for the block make sure u put ur underdrive pulley on and match it up exactly. u wanna get the exact measurement or esle your gunna expletive something up wen the the pistons clash the valves.

I thought only the B18A/B engines had the holes in the cam caps and cams to aid in keeping the cams at TDC.

Or there's a tool you can buy at Napa for $10 that clips in and holds them in place for you.

B18A/B has them on the #1 cap covers, B-series vtec heads have holes in the cam plates.

Buddy clubs don't have the holes in the cam, which makes them a bitch. I know the Skunk2s do.
