Got the whip caged...
Making more progress towards H4. I had Mike Lock at Calculated Risk cage the hatchback. Mike builds great cages and was really helpful in helping get what I needed.
I just tracked the car this weekend at Fernely and it was awesome. I just need some new brake pads and a figure out why the car is overheating.
Pics (Don't mind my crazy overspray):

I'm running a D16z6 that I bought from Mike as well, and the stock DX radiator.
My guess is the following:
Timing
Thermostat
Radiator
Fluid (It's fresh, but it never hurts to do a flush)

Very nice cage Iggy....and Mike. The car is looking really good. Do you have any video of fernley track?
When I decide to cage, Calculated Risk will be the no brainer go to. Did you guys have a discussion about the diagonal bar near the left side of the driver helmet?
Also, did you have work done for the seat mounting as well? Pics?

I have the net, but the mounting hardware is on backorder 2-3 weeks. So I have to wait untill then.

No they end right infront of the ecu.

I have video. It was my first time at that track and first time out with this car, but it was really a blast. I'll upload the video as soon as I can edit it.
Yes, he explained what each bar would do and why they were important. The seat and sliders are Mugen, so I still need a seat back brace. The mugen rails are really nice.

Is it just me or does that dash bar look awfully low and not very safe? What's the reasoning behind putting the bar so low? It look's like the easy way out to me.

But in the event of an impact are your shins or any portion of your leg going to contact the bar? I'm just curious here, I know my fabricator does things a bit differently.

I believe the intention is to make the dash bar more effective in a side impact. Note that the dash bar is placed at the same height as the drivers side upper door bar, which in turn is placed about the height of the headlights of an incoming car. That configuration is optimizing the load path for the side impact.

That's fine and dandy but it still doesn't answer my question of what may happen if the drivers legs are flung towards that bar? Why not position the dash bar higher in the structure and run a bar from the dash bar down to where the door bars attached to add strength to that structure?

Yes.
if you worried about your legs, hi-density foam it

I know that this might sound stupid, but I have a 92 4dr civic that im thinking about turing into a autocross car... have you seen any 4dr roll bar cages?
Thanks
Wes

I highly doubt that if you're autocrossing, you won't be needing any sort of roll cage. If you're road racing, like some of the other people on this forum, then you're gonna need a nice, safe cage.

well road racing as well... It was stripped down to nothing on the inside and since i dont want to replace everything on the inside i thought that i might be able to slap a cage in there and have some fun with road racing/auto crossing

Actually I thought the opposite,
I've seen many bars that sit lower than that, it actually looks like its up there! The nearside angle is deceptive

I didn't know that a Civic Dx with a D16Z6 engine swap is allowed to race in H4. Are Cx and Vx shells also allowed to race in H4 with a D16Z6 engine swap?

Yup, you can take advantage of the chassis swap rule and run a CX or VX with a D16Z6 as an Si. That's what I be doing.

nice color on the cage iggy! I never thought of painting a cage that color. Looks HOT! Sorry I didn't make it out to fernly, with the heat wave 'n all I decided to go waterskiing instead. You may have been overheating because you were at 5000 feet, in 110 degree weather, with a stock radiator. Pop an integra rad in there. Thats is what I had in the slow and didn't have any problems.

Yes it was the new part. 20 turns, some of them looked the same to it took a while to remember.

It was a total bitch to paint though! I never new metalic paint sprayed so far, I had overspray on the roof of the car.
It was really hot at Fernley I don't know if I want to do it again just because of that. Can I run an Integra radiator in H4? I can get a type r one for free, but I didn't want to put it in since I had to remove the stock brackets.
