4th Gen, dash light problem
Hey guys, new here.. just bought me a honda prelude 93... engine runs fine and all but a bunch of small things wrong with it.. the only question i have to ask which might have been asked before is... my dash lights don't work...
yes i have the checked the fuses.. infact.. i changed the fuse that burnt.. in the box under the hood.. that went all fine and dandy... the dash on the right side.. where it shows the gas, the hot/cold, all the hot, cold air stuff works with lights but my speedometer and my rpm gauge does not light up what so ever... so im not sure what the situation on that is.. if anyone has some clue as to the best way to fix this... please.. any suggestions would be great.. odds are.. probably a nasty electrical problem?

UMM...I'm not sure on the older version of the 4th gens, but there is a light adjuster. The same adjuster that adjuses the gas and temp. turn that to the hightes setting. If you have it...I'm pretty sure it was only on the 94-96 models.
when you turn on your headlights, does your climate control light up (but not your speedometer)? If that's the case, maybe the bulbs burnt out in the speedometer. I believe the climate control lighting runs off the same electrical wiring as lighting in your speedometer.

if not check the fuse box inside, there should be something called instrument panel

ok 92-96 all had dimmers. Turn on the headlights. You want to turn it all the way up right to before the click. That will make the gas and ect gauges light up enough to know they are on but not to teh point where the ect and gas gauge are the same brightness as when your headlights are off. Now if you speedo and tach are still not lit up and the ect and gas gauge is bright as they would be without headlights on then its a fuse, believe its a 10a. might be mistaken. but there is a short somewhere causing it to blow out. Mine was in my radio wiring. So check and see if the fuse is blown again and if it is your shorting out somewhere
thanks for the comments and suggestions, fellas.. i think it may be burnt out bulbs although not 100% sure.. at the moment it seems as though whenever i tried to turn the switch all the way up till it clicks, doesn't make a difference.. climate control, gas, air con, etc, everything lights except for the driver side on the left... which sucks cuz i can't drive at nite.. and for some reason the rpm tachometer dont work neither but that's a whole 'nother topic... that i'll ask at a later date..
The time when my dash lights stopped working was when i brought it in for an out of town inspection (Canada... Vancouver to Calgary) It said it needed fixing like a bulb at the front light died.. day time lights werent running.. and the horn wasn't working apparently... after they 'fixed' it.. my horn still didn't work and now my dash don't work.. deck don't work neither but i think it's just loose connection in the back cuz the person who owned it previous sucks at installing... But yeah ill try to see what's up... anyone know how i would change the bulbs in the dash if the are burnt so i don't have to end up paying some guy 90/hr just to do it..?? i also wanted to change the bulb colours

on a 2000 u just unscrew the bolts on the top of the gauge cover and pop out the clips in the bottom, unscrew the gauges, disconnect the wire harnesses behind it and ull be able to remove it. look at the back and you will see the bulbs. not 100% sure about 4th gens but it cant be too different
about changing the colors its a pain in the *** cuz u cant get to the tinted screen they shine thru, just get some glow gauges off of ebay... theyre like $30. just make sure u kno how to wire them, i just hooked mine up to the headlight circuit which seems to work fine

i went ahead and took out the back, and i checked if there was any voltage coming from the bulbs and there was.. which means.. there must be some faulty electrical wiring in there
greatttttttt this is gonna cost me
